Playing 46 foot, very flat pattern

Post by slmrcs »

Saw a thanksgiving tournament happening and thought I'd sign up.
Then they posted this pattern:

http://bowlerxtournaments.com/home/oil%20patterns.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The closest thing I've ever bowled on is Mexico city.
At about 240 revs, med track, this pattern is not the best for my game.
Not sure of best way to play, on Mexico city I move inside and throw it out to about 14.
This is so flat, thinking just lay it down about 10 and throw at the pocket.
Have a raptor talon drilled pretty aggressively, can take it out of storage for this.

Just curious what other people think, or how other people would play this. It may break down to produce some area (8 game tournament), but this looks to be some challenge.

Surface will be your friend on long patterns. 500 or 1000 on your strongest asymm (depending on your ball speed). Seems like the pattern is intended to be played right with a breakpoint in the 7-8 range.

I think lay down at ten, pointing at the pocket is a good plan. Rule of 31, indicates you'd want to exit the oil around the 3rd arrow. So, IMO targeting around 10, playing direct seems like a good starting point.

Aggressive ball, plenty of surface and a low ratio (1:1), low total layout like those recommended in the wiki. I have a Guru Master 35 x 5 x 30 and other strong stuff for these conditions.

Stay inside, repeat shot that gets you to the hole on a consistent basis and move off it it when it breaks down.
Adapt or perish!

I agree with Steve, at 240rpm you will need a very aggressive ball with an aggressive layout and some surface to help get friction. Practice and see if you can play it like you play Mexico City, if that doesn't work go straight like he says.

Yes, I don't have anything very new that's strong, It's going to be raptor talon at 500 grit.
What's I've learned from sport shot league and putting in lots of practice when I can on these patterns is, it always works out best to play the pattern as it's meant to be. Even without a big hook I do better on long oil playing inside and keeping a tight line.
I'm familiar with Mexico city, but was concerned about the higher volume of oil.
Well, the scoring pace is going to be low and with 8 games it will break down.
