I have a friend who sustained an injury when he was young. His wrist is not as strong as one would like it to be. He tried different wrist supports, none worked. Few even made it worse.
He can play with 14 lb but after 3 games, his wrist pain enters the picture. It's really hard for him to continue with a 14 lb ball.
If he goes to 13 lb. Will that be any good? Does a 13 lb behave the same as 14 pound in terms of ball motion and pin carry?
What is meant by Generic Core?
13 lb. Any good?

Re: 13 lb. Any good?
He may see some slight relief, but a 1 lb drop isn't much; some people can tell the difference, others can't.
With each pound you drop, you are losing a little hitting power, but if you can bowl without pain you will naturally make up the difference with better shots.
A generic core means the original core shape for the ball is impossible to recreate at the lighter weight so they will provide a simpler shape that can provide the ball with similar RG values and down lane characteristics.

At 13 lbs I recommend using entry level and lower mid-level reactive resin balls. You don't get the core you pay for in the higher price balls. You don't get it in the lower price balls either but at least you don't pay as large a penalty. -- JohnP

Re: 13 lb. Any good?
Just look at the specs for the 13# equip. Sometimes they have higher differentials than their big brothers. Or sometimes much lower. So what I am getting at is having the proper layouts on the ball matched to the bowler is really important to keep your carry percentage up with the lighter ball.

Re: 13 lb. Any good?
Thanks for all the advices. The one most appropriate seems to be the one that realizes that a little less hitting power can be compensated with better release.
No point in going after ball specs if you can't make a quality shot just because you can't keep your hand where it is supposed to be when you deliver.
Can somebody recommend some balls which are better than other 13 lb balls?

Re: 13 lb. Any good?
What are the release specs of this bowler?
Give us some information to work with. What balls and layouts is he using now? How does he try to play the lanes?
Without knowing what kind of bowler he is, I wouldn't be comfortable recommending anything.

I've sold a lot of the Ebonite Cyclones and haven't had a single complaint. -- JohnPCan somebody recommend some balls which are better than other 13 lb balls?

We need to know his specs in order to recommend a ball based on coverstock strength and diff. There are many good balls available at 13 lbs.

Re: 13 lb. Any good?
I just made the decision to try a 13 # ball (other arsenal are 14 #) for dryer lanes and spare. I bought the Track Spare + and have used it for two weeks. For the THS I have found out that I can used it with different hand release on every shot in league play. Now I went to the Florida Senior State Championship and lanes were heavy oiled and Track Spare was not good. Used my Roto Hyper Cell for excellent results. But for league play the Track Spare + may be by go-to-ball.
