Re: Kegel Specto Lidar
I’d imagine that any sort of speed camera would do the trick for ball speed, mounted near the lane. But to analyze hook and revs, you’ll need some pretty serious software chops, as well as a tracking camera of some kind to follow the ball. The Kegel system appears to have gone with dozens of station...

Re: Targeting
I struggle with this as well. The key is to get your shoulders lined up with the target when you get to the foul line. Your arm will naturally follow the path of the shoulders.

Re: My thoughts on PBA telecasts I've watched lately
They’re definitely trying like hell to bring hype, to the point of being a bit embarrassing. The commentary has gone into cheerleader territory. It doesn’t look so much like a sport, as an x-games or something.

Re: Slight inconsistancys between shots some times in a game
Going through the exact same learning process now. The hardest part was realizing that I needed to tighten the thumb hole when I got stuck in the ball (gripping with the end of my thumb)

It helps to have a hand that can wrap halfway around the ball.

Re: Looking for a little help with angles...
Yeah, remember the arrows are 1/3 the distance to the end of the pattern (15’ vs ‘45’ or so). So just aim for 1/3 the sideways distance to your target from where you lay it down.

Re: How do you determine Launch Angle
Could figure out the exact angle/board to use with some trig.
Or, I could just memorize where to stand and aim, and adjust slightly based on ball reaction.

Re: If you could buy a bowling alley...
Some Professional Bowlers get free practice in some bowling centers. Some Professional Pool/Billiards/Snooker players also get free practice. This is done to get aspiring players to spend more time (and money) in the center. The Professional sometimes will give free lessons or advice. I haave never...

Re: If you could buy a bowling alley...
Regional traveling is fun as a kid- I did that in the Detroit area back in the 80's with the Sunday Youth Classic. We traveled all over greater Detroit, and bowled a ton of different places, but we didn't have coaches. That would have been invaluable as we were all learning to bowl transitions and ...

The local place has a free kids league on saturdays. That’s been a mainstay for a while now.
Another one gets kids into a regional traveling league, which gives them an opportunity to experience team play with coaching.

Oh definitely I love the idea of an annual membership. But League bowlers should always bowl free anyway, imo.

Re: If you could buy a bowling alley...
My biggest suggestion would be to have an actual restaurant/cafe on the premises. A ‘hangout’ that draws people in for the food. Nobody is putting up with crappy food/beer any more, and few want to host a birthday party on the settee. Have a few legit pool tables, if you have the space, or a small a...

Re: Getting Fingers on the inside of the ball
Following with interest. I made a valiant attempt at getting ‘inside the ball’ last night - pointing my hand a bit away from me on the backswing - but this mainly resulted in me turning my wrist too soon at the bottom, and spinning my shots down the lane. I didn’t feel like I could genuinely avoid t...

Help with my pushaway/timing
Just got my first videos of my shot, and I think I need some help with the pushaway. It looks really awkward, but I don't know how else to do it, and give myself enough time to get to the line... Re: Lowest average ever seen to bowl over 200+(almost double
I’ve done it myself. At 107, you’re probably looking at a very new league bowler, still figuring out his swing. Once he finds it, his average will rise quickly to match. Just part of learning the game, I guess. I hit 13 strikes in a row during practice, as a 120 average. All depends on when the cond...

Re: wet sanding vs regular
I am enjoying this thread immensely.
Am I the only one that desperately wants to keep my ball polished, because it looks so much better? I've sanded and polished my Hy-road twice, and it looks terrible without the polish.

Probably different core shapes, and different cover stock formulas between the two manufacturers.

Re: Ajusting.... Learn Something
The past couple of tournaments have featured patterns that are favorable from outside of 5, a Hoagland signature. Yet, on the telecasts that avenue is abandoned regularly, I dont get it. Kulick is the most versatile, Johnson the least. Sometimes I wonder if playing super deep is worth the lack of c...
