Re: Light Weight Bowling Balls for Young Children
Jim, I intend to keep this dialog with you in a folder for future reference; very helpful. Thanks for your offer on the Level 1 material - I have at least two copies of it as I will occasionally revisit the seminar for a refresher. I currently am Bronze Level and eyeing the Silver Level but don't wa...

Re: Light Weight Bowling Balls for Young Children
Jim, thanks very much for your input. Obviously, I was heading in the wrong direction - I always learn something new/different. I need to go back and do some additional observations. The youth coordinator has been in this business since 1995, and is the only one I saw on the floor giving the leagues...

Light Weight Bowling Balls for Young Children
I stopped by one of the bowling centers over the weekend that hosts some youth bowling leagues. I was curious to see how well attended, the age ranges, how they were developing, and who/how many were "coaching" this group. One thing I noticed was that the very young appeared to be somewhat...

Re: Various pattern reading.moving questions
Ted Thompson at Kegel wrote a good article on this subject back in 2012.

Re: Where is my faulty logic at exactly? reading lanes
Rob, I feel your pain. I don't want to hijack this thread as this has been discussed elsewhere. For a bowling center to survive and prosper, they must change -- going from bowling centers to entertainment centers. In the past few months, I've been in a few (eg Ft. Wayne and Myrtle Beach, etc) and th...

Re: Where is my faulty logic at exactly? reading lanes
... If the proprietor in your house is not giving you a fresh lane condition to bowl in a high average league, then find somewhere else to bowl. Any proprietor who does not realize that leagues are their bread and butter doesn't deserve to have you bowling there. If you stay where they don't care, ...

Making a list for laying out an arsenal
I am always looking for different ways to view my equipment. What information would be most useful in putting a collection of bowling balls in a sequence - an arsenal, if you will? That is, if you have a list of bowling balls in a spreadsheet, what sort order would be most helpful in determining the...

Eric, I don't want to hi-jack this tread, but I am always looking for different ways to view my equipment. From this dialogue, what information would be most useful in putting a collection of bowling balls in a sequence - an arsenal, if you will? That is, if you have a list of bowling balls in a spr...

Re: League Bowling Team?
Steve, Your thoughts and my spreadsheet has shown me several patterns and some questionable items to address. And, as you say, this is a much better way for me to see what I have (and what I should probably recycle). I took your ball surface references and overlaid them with the USBC recommendations...

Re: League Bowling Team?
He's baaack!
Steve, I like your philosophy, so I took your information and wove it into a spreadsheet that I can manipulate to get me various flavors of a 4-ball arsenal.
Here's how the second cut looks.

Re: League Bowling Team?
Steve, thank you so much for this input! Yours is a philosophy that I am trying to return to as I develop a better understanding of bowling. I'd like to PM you in the future to clarify/tweak this information to suit my needs. I'm going to sit back for a while, digest what I've been told, and see wha...

Re: League Bowling Team?
bfweld: The two guys maintain a fairly consistent score across the three games whereas I do not. I think the cranker might see a slight decrease as the games progress, but not much. Hmmm, not sure why stats aren't showing up (high-track stroker). I've been experimenting with surface changes to deal ...

Re: League Bowling Team?
Steve, I am probably wrong in my observation of these two guys, but their break-point is so far right that they occasionally will gutter the throw. But, maybe it is just out to the 9-6. There is no way I can/would play that far right and take that risk in my scoring. I bowled with another guy in ano...

Re: League Bowling Team?
Wow! Good comments. I will try to respond to each. bfweld: Yeah, I found an area that works ... for a while, but goes away with this traffic. The guys that play out to the 5-board (or less) are higher scoring. The guy bowling with the Timeless is in the 225 range and very consistent in his scoring. ...

Re: League Bowling Team?
Steve, thanks for your well-reasoned response. My post was partly just me whining out loud, but I wanted to see if others might offer something I'd missed. I've played on diverse teams before, but I don't recall such extremes in skill levels (and average scores in this league range from 120s to 270s...

League Bowling Team?
I find myself on a league bowling team playing a typical (?) house condition where: * one member is higher rev, higher speed who starts out standing left and bowls across the lane out to the 5-board with a Radical Ridiculous Pearl, * one member is balanced who plays up the 5-board with a Storm Timel...

Re: Very Short Pin Distances
Thanks for the replies, Tony and Dustin, and for the additional information. I'm pretty sure he won't be making any surface changes, and he's bowling with it OOB (1500 polished). Eventually, the surface will settle in at the belt shine, and that's how he'll play it.

Re: Mo returning to Mechanicsburg, PA May 19 & 20, 2017
Better yet, is there some place that lists where Mo will be when? I generally hear of his visits after the fact. And, I'm not aware that he ever visits any place in the mid-west?

Very Short Pin Distances
I bowled with an older guy recently who was sporting a new Roto Grip Wreak Em. What caught my eye was the super small Pin to CG distance -- less than 1/2 inch. I'd never seen a ball with the two marking nearly on top of one another. Of course, the layout had these to markings in the center of the pa...

Re: How can we save bowling?
These are all good points about the impact of bowlers, centers, and associations on the sport of bowling. Another component is the Pro-Shop and its impact on the sport of bowling. Now, I am not here to bash the PSO, but to point out how they might improve the sport. I read some articles by the IBPSI...
