Re: The how and why behind MB/ Asymmetrical balls

KOTM -- I had not seen all of the information in the seminar article, thanks for the link. It contains most, and perhaps all of the info I was looking for, and I will make up simple charts to express it and post them in my shop. Math -- I do enjoy the technical information you present and do my best...

You're welcome. You could also use a label maker to mark the rings, but a Sharpie won't peel off. -- JohnP

Re: Oil Absorption and Cleaning

It takes at most 30 seconds to wipe a ball off, probably closer to 15. I also try to do it at a time I am waiting, but if that's not possible I don't worry about the 30 second delay. -- JohnP

Re: Explain the Science to me of inverting track flare

Flare DOES NOT reverse. All you have done is rotate the bowtie points a long way around the ball unless the pin to PAP distance exceeds 6 3/4".. I have thought this is the case for some time, but every time I've tried to get confirmation I've been told it's not right. Thanks, Mo, for the confi...

Re: May be an interesting question - but I'll throw it out there

To find tilt, when you line the 'dillo up to locate the PAP, count how many track rings the line you're using is away from the dotted line. The dotted line is a full roller track or 13 1/2" diameter. The first ring away from the dotted track is a diameter reduction of 1/2", or 13" dia...

Re: May be an interesting question - but I'll throw it out there

If you happen to have one of Mo's Armadillos the axis tilt can be directly related to which track line on the 'dillo matches the curvature of your initial track ring. If anyone's interested I'll post the relationship, I've permanently marked it on my 'dillo. -- JohnP

Re: The how and why behind MB/ Asymmetrical balls

I have read all the posts in this thread, some of them multiple times. I like to think I'm fairly intelligent, but there's less that I understand than that I do understand. I'd like to ask that you use the KISM principle. What I'd like to have is a series of simple charts in plain English that show ...

Re: Oil Absorption and Cleaning

One of the best ways to help avoid losing reaction from oil absorption is to wipe your ball clean with a microfiber towel before you throw it each time. Follow that up with a thorough cleaning after bowling and I doubt you'll even need to have it deoiled. -- JohnP

Re: Track migration

Thanks for pointing me to that thread. I read the first 25 posts. Maybe by tomorrow my head will stop spinning (MathIsTruth could probably plot the RG countour lines) and I can read some more. All I really wanted to know is which way the track moved (or the PAP migrated). Seems it's a lot more compl...

Track migration

I have a couple of related questions that have never been answered to my satisfaction. I have my own ideas, but would like to know if I'm right. First, as the track flares the flare rings move toward the pin until the pin is in the track (or the core is "standing up"). Right or wrong? Seco...

Re: Why do coverstock crack?

I have heard the theory that when a ball, new or drilled, is stored for a long time usually it is left in one position. Thus the full weight of the ball is concentrated on a single small area, eventually building up enough stress to start the crack. I had one myself that I left on the floor of the s...

Re: Mo, I've got a Gradient Line question.....

If I have any doubt about whether the track will flare over a balance hole I mark the proposed location with a stack of three pieces of tape and have the customer throw it. You'll hear the "thump" if the track hits the tape, but also check the location of the closest flare ring. If it's wi...
