Re: RG of the PAP
"linear velocity" is ball speed. PAP migration along an RG plane is precession. If linear velocity is ball speed, what do you make of Mo's statement: "The linear velocity will decrease as it approaches the minor axis (pin to spin line) and start to increase as it passes the minor axi...

Re: RG of the PAP
Also, let's consider that during the Roll phase, as has been stated here before, 1" of ball surface equals 1" of lane surface traveled. Bowling ball circumference = 27" = 2.25' 1 rpm - 2.25'/minute 1 mph - 5280'/60 minute = 88'/min Consider a hypothetical "Matched" bowler o...

Re: RG of the PAP
A flat spot on an otherwise circular RG plane is essentially a shortcut from one point (A) on a circle to another (B), so the track would flare farther/faster as the PAP migrates through that area if the rate of precession remains constant. Which would be the case if the RG of the PAP remains const...

Re: RG of the PAP
It is my understanding that the asymmetry at the PSA flattens the ellipse of the RG plane (axis migration path) in the area of the pin-to-spin line, making the path less circular, and therefore shorter from point A to point B. And how does this equate to a higher rev rate? And where is point A to p...

It does.
So is friction adding energy to the system or taking it away?

Re: RG of the PAP
So we agree the RG value doesn't change because the PAP stays on the same RG contour. My next question is: does the moment of interia in a ball get smaller as it goes down the lane, which leads to an increase in the angular or rotational velocity? Answering this question from my understanding, if th...

RG of the PAP
Simple question, does the RG of the PAP change as the ball flares going down the lane?

Re: Coaching questions for students and Coachs ...
As a coach, I start with technique, and the fundamentals of footwork placement and cadence, a straight swing plane, a stable upper body and 'modern' timing. Many want to start with the release, but I won't get to that until their fundamentals are sound.

Re: PBA Playoffs. HATE the shouting.
If nothing changes, then nothing changes. This event isn't for a title, so it's an opportunity to try something different. Do I like it? Not particularly, but if it gets a new generation of sports fans watching bowling again and helping to keep the sport relevant, then it's worth experimenting with....

Re: Bowling periodicals, BTM, etc (pre digital)
Hi John, I got rid of the few magazines I bought, but I've got a PDF version for BTM editions from Sept 09 to Oct 2013, plus the Best of BTM Vol 1 and 2 on PDF, which has articles from July 1996 to June 2004. I still read them as there is some timeless information in some of the articles.

Re: Anybody Ever Fly Overseas with Bowling Balls?
You can lay towels across the top of the balls and on the sides for extra protection, but beside from the tote bag itself getting a bit knocked around, I've never had any issues.

Re: Sport Layout Ratio Question
Thanks for your input mate, and I didn't mean to imply they were the same motion, but the required motion. I've taken most of the side roll out of my shot to control the backend, and using the sports layouts requires oil for some length, but when I increase the side roll to get some shape as I move ...

Re: Sport Layout Ratio Question
Use these sport layout balls when playing on the fresh, until the hook-set angle takes you away from the pocket and entry angle becomes flat. Then use slightly more continuous, or angular balls when the pattern breaks down and the pattern has more miss room. These balls are not meant for inside out...

I'm very dubious about the accuracy of the RPMs on the Fox tracker. It looks more like an average than off the hand.

Re: The core hitting the pocket...
But Mr White is also raising a real world issue, as most balls 'rev up' due to them encountering friction at the end of the oil pattern, especially with slower ball speed. If this coincides with the PAP crossing the pin to spin line it may amplify the effect, but how many balls 'rev up' on 60 feet o...

Re: Absorption Rate Fact vs Friction
A real world example. When bowling, I wipe the oil off the ball before every shot. I recently was given a Track 300C Solid (2013, Gen MC coverstock), which I'm now using as a spare ball, as the first thing I noticed was that the oil is still sitting on the cover of the ball every time I go to clean ...

Re: Will we ever see another Earl Anthony?
Stu Williams was talking about rev rate when commentating the other day. It was something along the lines of increasing rev rate from 350rpm to 450rpm doesn't make a huge difference in how you can play the lane, but increasing rev rate from 450rpm to 550rpm does. The guys with the higher rev rates a...

Re: Timing at the line vs the rest of the approach
It's a bit hard to tell without seeing the video. How high is his backswing? If the ball is at the top of the backswing by the end of his 2nd step, then he will likely have early timing at the start of his slide and at the the foul line. Has he stopped sliding before he releases the ball? I'm guessi...
