Re: Bowling games price increase

It is not fair to compare a non commercial operation such as bowling at a government subsidised air force base to a business. Most bowling centers are run as businesses and if there is not sufficient income the business will close. Many places have removed lanes because there is more income per squa...

Re: Want to learn basic fitting - need guidance

Are there no guidelines for can size related to span? Something someone wrote down while testing this out? You really need to assess and measure the bowler's hand. Twin brothers came to me one day for bowling bowls, the boys were 14 years old. The measurements were different so I would not recommen...

Re: Want to learn basic fitting - need guidance

Your PSO told you not to read anything written before 2015. I am going to suggest getting some books. One written by Bill Taylor, who died in 2009. Taylor wrote a book about fitting a bowlng ball. I believe all measuring and fitting methods are based on Bill Taylor's work. Taylor also designed some ...

Re: Want to learn basic fitting - need guidance

Youngest junior I got is 17, so that is no worry! As for my PSO, he is WAY too far away for me to just go visit, I would NOT walk the 500 miles to get to his door :P All I learn, I have to read up on, and test on live subjects, without necessarily actually using the numbers I get from them. Just do...

Re: Want to learn basic fitting - need guidance

Your PSO has definite ideas as to what you should do. While you do not plan to do any ball drilling yourself, you could ask your PSO if he can provide the basic training needed for you to measure a beginner's hand. The drilling of bowling balls can be done by that PSO. I suggest that you tell the bo...

Re: Brunswick purchases EBI

How do you "get adjusted" to food being taken out of the mouths of Americans; all in the name of the almighty dollar? Your theory suggests that people only play if the equipment is made in their home country. That would result in the game only being played in the USA, Mexico, China, and m...

Re: Practice time prior to league games

In my 50+ years of bowling I have never seen potential subs practicing during league warm up time. That is a new one on me. ;) In the US many leagues operate with 'floating subs' where the sub can bowl with any team. In Ireland I have never seen floating subs being used. Teams are allowed a fixed n...

Re: Practice time prior to league games

Before the practice starts you can get your stretching exercises done. You never mentioned how many on a team and if substitutes will also get practice time. For example, if it is team of 5 with 2 subs waiting to maybe get to play the 2nd or 3rd game you could have up to 14 people trying to get some...

The USBC rule book aplies to the US only. Unless another National organisation decides to use the USBC rule book.

You can set a policy in your shop that a parent or guardian is present during the fitting process.

Re: Leagues with underage bowlers now required Safesport

It should be remembered that most USBC rules are copied by the other countries in the world. This USBC rule is the result of an American Federal law brought in because a sporting official in the US abused young athletes. Many countries already have procedures to prevent such abusive activity. In Ire...

Re: Pan american Games Gold medal stripped for drug use

Facts are he tested for a drug that is banned, we’ll see if the appeal clears him. The drug that is banned is not a performance enhancing drug. However having it in your system might prevent a perforrmance enhancing drug from being detected. The bowler should have declared using that drug and prese...

Re: Your Most Memorable Moment In Bowling?

One group I coached was for Blind and Visually Impaired bowlers.  One lady in her 60's who was blind since early childhood loved bowling.  She lived about 80 miles(130KM) away and had to take a train to get to the bowling center.  One of her grandchildren brought her.  As she progressed in bowling s...

Re: Wrist - Conditioning, Strengthening. Problems

Your edit for clarificarion purposes does help. I know one man who built his upper body strength for another sport. He then took up bowling. Due to the muscle structure buillt up across his shoulders his back swing did not go very high. He was told by a number of coaches that he had to make his back...

Re: sharing drilling sheet specs with customers

A customer came into my shop one day. He had been away to another country and bought a ball and had it drilled by a highly regarded PSO and then asked for the drilling spec sheet. When he returned home he brought the spec sheet to have the same drilling on a new ball to a local shop. He did this a f...

Re: PBA Playoffs. HATE the shouting.

The lack of consideration for others is not confineed to PBA events. I have seen it and heard it on radio and TV discussion programs, Everyone on the 'panel' seems to believe their opinion must be heard over all other speakers. As a result several people speak at the same time. I turn the program of...

Re: My trek through PSOs to find the promised land

Bowling is a sport that is played internationally, over 100 countries are involved. I find it curious that the proposed solutions so far are US based organisations. That is to say the USBC, the PBA, and the IBPSIA. The manufacturers also have a part in this. I got Pro Shop training to the Ebonite me...
