Certainly, the shot is a mess. Reactive equipment is going to react to every nook and cranny of the pattern....and...the release. Urethane will be much more forgiving in every manner.
If I had not witnessed the urethane phenomenon personally, I would be very skeptical myself.

Re: Single Strip vs. Double Strip
When I talk about "guys around town", I'm talking about legitimate PBA and Team USA bowlers in our area, they're not the run of the mill person chucking a ball. It's interesting to see how they manipulate their game and the equipment they use. Also, I know a lot of them personally, they're...

Re: Single Strip vs. Double Strip
On many sport patterns, 8 is the gutter. No surprise there. It sounds like you might not be looking at the right part of the lane. Are you drawing "a line in your mind"? In other words, looking very close, but extending long. Doing so will narrow your ball path, should keep the ball from l...

Re: Single Strip vs. Double Strip
Week 3: Mush Week 4: Mush I watch PBA Xtra Frame and its like a completely different world from what im seeing weekly. I wont set foot in this center again after the next 6 weeks, I think they've lost control of the environment. Im at my wits end right now. This is exactly the problem with sport co...

Re: Ball Surface for Nationals?
Good advice here.
One tip, the ball probably will not be shiny. Knock the surface down to 4000 even before stepping onto the lane. After that, you don't have much time during practice. You'll want to react quickly in terms of applying surface to the ball.

Re: League Bowling Team?
There are at least a few guys around town that average 230 - 240 who never change balls and do not move very much, if at all, in a three game set. It does not matter where they bowl or who they are bowling against. Almost defies explanation, except, they utilize a lost art. Speed control.

Re: USBC Lane Inspection Study
The original concept of synthetic installation suggested the panels be laid on a bed of 1/4 in sheet metal. Talk about expensive.... Only through the modern marvel of you tube, would the entire world know what any good lane man or proprietor knew and understood, the kickbacks directly or adversely e...

Re: Single Strip vs. Double Strip
Can today's machines really transform a lane condition from one day to the next? The reason I'm asking, my experience with lane conditioning machines is somewhat limited now. Our house will occasionally put out a more difficult shot for various tournaments. Even a couple of days later, there appears...

Re: Single Strip vs. Double Strip
If I managed the same center, I would have full disclosure. I'd print the house shot out on a piece of paper and slap in on the wall near the front desk for all to see. How they interpret it, is up to them. It would be an out of box Kegel recreation pattern I would not modify. Everyone would see wh...

Re: Single Strip vs. Double Strip
I've been very fortunate to have worked with and around some of the best people in bowling, in one of the largest centers in the world. Honestly, I've seen and experienced everything. One of the most memorable revolved around the house changing from wood to synthetics. This transpired simultaneously...

Re: Single Strip vs. Double Strip
Herein lies at least a few of the issues when putting out sport shots. To get it right, there would be a process of cleaning the lane at least a couple of days before the tougher shot is applied. It's more costly in terms of product usage and wear on the machine. The topography of the lane may not b...

Re: How do you adjust on a shorter flat oil pattern. sport s
Just finished up with nationals, I have mixed feelings about it. I am totally disgusted about how bad I bowled. I missed easy things because I was scared of the oil pattern and the ball doing somehing crazy. Everything I have heard from everyone is a lie. I shouldn't listened to anything. I ended u...

Re: 1st time at the USBC Open Championship
People need to understand, tougher shots are designed to make the release technique more effectual than ball layouts. Surface yes, layouts no. Think about it. What is the purpose of putting out a tough oil pattern if someone can drill something to defeat it? I've talked with people who have actually...

Re: Thumb swelling.
Thanks AGAIN for the suggestion,,,,,I'm gonna try the sock,,,,$10 bucks is worth a shot! 5 pieces of tape,,, WOW Five pieces of tape is not a lot, really. Norm Duke uses way more. But, as I mentioned earlier, the Sock works for certain people. One of the two fellows I talked of even has the IT syst...

Re: Thumb swelling.
There are a variety of reasons the thumb will swell, temperature of the surroundings (both inside and out), temperature of the ball, anxiety, health issues, the type of work one does, holding the ball too tight, etc. We have a couple of customers who use the Thumb Sock. Because of the type of work t...

Re: Is Bowling an Entitlement
In my case, there is no prize fund, just lineage and a small fee, which goes to the House, too. It's a managed league, managed by the House manager, so if he runs off with it he has bigger problems than the USBC. But you bring up a valid point. If this league had a prize fund then I would push for ...

Re: Is Bowling an Entitlement
Over my career in the business, I know of seven leagues where the secretary took off with the money.Dustin wrote:Another benefit offered by the USBC is bonding.
None of the league members ever got their money. Maybe someone else has had a different experience?

Arguably, Pete is definitely one of the best bowlers to ever hit the lanes. I am familiar with some issues that have plagued him throughout his career.
One question:
Pete, do you have any regrets?

That's my plan. Of course, I think like a league bowler! I hope that the one-time $18 fee isn't going to discourage folks. Good point though, thanks TomaHawk. I will talk it over with my neighbor. What's your recommendation? Viper/Joe Your idea / approach / concept is refreshing! Ultimately, I thin...
