Re: Suzie Minshew's Bowl-Gram Keeping pins low

Yes Mo’s sentiments exactly. I still wonder though if a skidding ball hitting the pocket keeps the pins low as a rolling ball seems to.

Re: Chicken wing cause?

There are a few causes but without seeing a video am only guessing. For a right hander, it can be late timing and the ball is pulled down from the top of the swing lead by the bowling shoulder, it can be the ball getting left of your head at the top of the swing and then having to swing the ball aro...

Re: Talent Code

I read The Talent Code in 2010 and skill development is still one of my favourite areas of interest to research and write about. Anders Ericsson's books and essays are well worth reading on this topic. Coaching bowling is one thing, coaching to improve someone's skill takes a different understanding...

Re: Pete weber layout

When I did my layouts study in 2013-2015, Pete only used 2 layouts regularly - pin just above ring finger and pin just below ring finger.

The other layout I saw was on an IQ Tour with the pin beside ring finger and a smaller drill angle (CG placement), and about a P3 balance hole.

Re: New rotation/tilt overlay

You need to use a video editing program, where you can place the overlay in a video layer above the footage, and then zoom in on the ball until they match. I use Sony Vegas. You also need to make sure you are videoing directly behind the launch angle of the ball. The attached example has 40 degrees ...

Re: Opinion: Why is bowling dying? Our game is deeply flawed

A quick search of "Why is golf dying?" and the parallels are striking: People are too damn busy - Studies show that leisure time has shrunk for both sexes. It’s elitist and too expensive - Golf is destined to continue to hemorrhage participants and further ensure its place as a mostly-white, suburba...

I think if somone has more than negative twenty degrees of tilt they should be working on their release as a priority!

New rotation/tilt overlay

Hi, Bill Sempsrott from BTM has created a new rotation and tilt overlay, which he has given permission to share. It looks great, can be used for right and left handers, and also includes positive and negative tilt.

Please find attached.

Re: The core hitting the pocket...

Years ago, I recall Mo saying physics dictate that a ball, or the core, if you were to think of it as a football, or rolling pin, only wants to rotate on 1 of 2 axis', and will always migrate (or attempt to) to one of these positions; End over end (Like a football that was kicked) or Spiral (Like a...

Re: Question regarding student focus during drills.

"Using the ETT premise as detailed by Onder Gurkan and Juha Maja of the ETBF team, would you advise the bowler roll a straight ball until they consistently successfully execute the drill?" Which drill? ETT = Everything Towards Target, which basically is body alignment, but not a drill in itself. Dri...

Re: Determinant factors for bowling ball purchase ...

When bowlers ask about what to add to their arsenal, I am always looking for the ball that will do something different to what they have already got. There is no point in having multiple balls that all react the same way on the lane. I consider the core, coverstock, OOB surface and layout, and also ...

Just ask Ron Mohr, soon to be 62! "While working as an air traffic controller, Mohr began a fitness regimen to keep in shape. He started keeping track of his workouts in 1999, and since then he has logged some impressive numbers — 2.08 million situps and 1.02 million pushups. He does pushups every d...

Re: Total Angle Sums

There is a lot to consider with layouts, and I'm becoming more mindful of friction each year - with the coverstocks and the lane. Bowlers are also using much more surface than OOB on their balls than ever before, which can sometime override the layout. I've learnt not to stress over 5 degrees here o...

Re: Total Angle Sums

Thanks for your replies, and yes Eric I'm finding the same thing here, the 95 benchmark is often too strong if there isn't the volume of oil, and the ball can lose energy too quickly.

Total Angle Sums

I was at a Del Warren coaching conference recently and his Dual Angle benchmark or balanced sum was 105. I've seen Slowinski use this as well. The breakdown below is what they both listed: 75 speed dominant 90 slightly speed dominant 105 balanced 120 slightly rev dominant 135 rev dominant I remember...
