Re: Ball Suggestion for Full Roller

I'll see him tomorrow afternoon (Thursday). I'm almost expecting negative tilt.

I'm in Tucson, AZ. Unfortunately, I'm probably 120 miles from the closest Advanced Certified shop for consultation, and Phoenix' pro shop competition is overly political.

Suggestions, good sir?

Re: no weight holes

From my understanding of differentials, you can decrease reaction beyond what a P1 hole provides. I think the GL system was intended to be usable in that it decreases the likelihood of flaring over the balance hole and provides a near predictable outcome ball to ball, layout to layout. But, for inst...

Re: different releases

I think what you're actually referring to with "different releases" is simply hand position. Hand position primarily changes axis rotation, not tilt. If your hand is right up the back, you produce a lot of forward-roll or low axis rotation. When your hand is around the side of the ball, you produce ...

Re: Ball Suggestion for Full Roller

On a symmetrical ball, am I able to move the pin further from 3 3/8" rather than toward the grip center?

And as a follow up, he actually tracks across the ring finger and bridge area even with the typical full roller layout. Is there a necessary grip adjustment or layout change?

I'll see what he thinks of that suggestion. Sounds pretty good to me.

Re: Getting a benchmark for a friend

Unfortunately, I don't have any means of measuring. But he's firmly speed dominant. 80* benchmark or so. What can we get from that? Thanks, Kelly.

Ball Suggestion for Full Roller

I've got an older customer who's looking to get a ball in the near future to give him some length. He's throwing an asymmetrical Lane #1 ball that's a couple of years old, but it picks up way too early and rolls forward too soon. His common leaves are the 8, 10, and high/flat splits. Looking for a b...

Getting a benchmark for a friend

My girlfriend's younger brother asked me to get all of his information to get a benchmark asymmetrical layout. I already made some suggestions and did a refit for him, but he wants to punch this ball up himself... we'll see. PAP 4 7/8", 1 1/4" -Any sort of release issue common with having this much ...

Re: Personal Benchmark

Is the Pin-to-PAP higher than normal due to the pattern and lanes or to something else?

I only figured something more like 2 3/4". I like 3 1/4" for sure.

Personal Benchmark

I've been using the DA system for all of my customers for several months now, so I figure it's about time I asked about my own benchmark layout. Fresh eyes and opinions are always beneficial. PAP: 5 over, 7/8 up Unfortunately no speed or rev rate measurements, but I'm certainly slightly speed domina...

Story of my life. I have the added bonus of being only 19 and thus much less knowledgeable than the local "strike-at-will" house bowler.

Re: Ebonite News release

As an economics major, I definitely agree with the free-market approach to this... with an addendum: We have to consider the effects of predatory pricing on the overall market. In my opinion, everyone can lose in the long run. Because pro shops offer products (the prices and profits of which are bei...

Re: Layout for a NIB MOjave

Phoenix is packed with pro shops. It's hard for a Tucsonan like myself to understand! There are 6 pro shops in Tucson, AZ (100 miles south of Phoenix). 3 are currently operated by the family I work for (my girlfriend's mom's shops... now that's an interesting dynamic!). So, practically speaking, the...

Re: How get on your Amateur or Regional Staff?

He's probably going to have to bowl in Amateur and PBA Regional tournaments with his own funds to establish himself as a sport shot bowler. Even if he averaged 260 on a house shot, he could still only average 190 on some sport shots if he didn't know how to play OR leaves too much room for error. Th...

Re: Layout Request for College Bowler

That's what I was thinking as well.

Any idea why the Trauma hooks so early and has continuous hook? It's almost as if the angle ratio is really low, but it's obviously not.

Layout Request for College Bowler

Although I am not the official University of Arizona pro shop guy, I've done stuff for a couple of their bowlers (probably because I drill for the coaches). One of the bowlers, 190-200 average on sport, just had all of his equipment refitted and layed out to fit his stats (to the best of my ability)...

Re: Ball Layouts

Also, although your PAP will change from ball to ball (mostly based on the strength of the post-drilled core, I believe), you should always base it off of an established PAP. With the exception of your spare ball, any ball you throw should have similar PAPs. 1) Measure your PAP off of a ball you alr...

Re: Balance Hole to smooth out a reaction

I think Mo said that if you don't have a DeTerminator, the best estimation for the PSA of the drilled symmetrical ball is the intersection of the center line and a point 6 3/4" from the pin to that line. I don't know if that makes sense, but it works out (very generally speaking) like this: -Pin-up ...

Re: PIN to PAP distances for.....

Lower total differentials = medium to high flaring pin-to-PAP for low tilt (especially speed dominant)
Higher total differentials = lower flaring pin-to-PAP for low tilt

Is this correct?

Re: PIN to PAP distances for.....

I agree with Mo (if I understood him correctly). I think the look on the lanes depends a lot on speed and rev dominance/equivalence. If someone is speed dominant, a high flaring layout will help the ball transition earlier (just like reducing the angle sums). This is probably why 3-4" Pin-to-PAPs ha...
