Re: Bowling-related apps for mobile devices

I love stats and use a new app called Lanetalk which automatically syncs my scores from the scoring system in realtime. Have really nice collection of stats and leaderboards too. :) http://www.lanetalk.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/se/app/lanetalk-...

Re: Very Odd Lane Effect and why did it happen?

The operative word is optimum. Years ago during the stepladder tv finals the commentator mentioned that Ameleto Monaceli had been intentionally using an extreme angle coupled with a rollout shot. That was his PLAN of attack. A ball entering the pocket needs to split the second pocket, the 5-9 for r...

Re: Very Odd Lane Effect and why did it happen?

As I mentioned in my reply, it's an "all things being equal" kind of analysis. If you JUST look at angle of entry, at the 17.5 board; or IF you JUST look at the board of entry; or IF you just look at ballspeed at entry. And, sorry, I went high with my angle number. I guess it should be between 4-6, ...

Re: Acceptable # of balls for THS

I will take it a step further. I think over the past 20 years the quality of the average league bowler has gone down and the quality of the equipment we throw has gone way up. Last I checked averages pretty much have held steady. Buy a ball instead of working on your game is the new mentality, as f...

Re: Acceptable # of balls for THS

If you need more than 3 balls on a house shot, including plastic, you need to work on your versatility. That's the obvious and condescending answer. However, I think the quality of houses is going down. With the big mergers, a lot of houses are declining in their maintenance of lanes and their effo...

Re: Very Odd Lane Effect and why did it happen?

What do they mean then when they say, "Belmo has a wider pocket than other bowlers?" How does the average bowler get a wider pocket, whatever that means. It sounds very desirable. ;) Remember, the USBC and others have shown that certain entry angles have more or less forgiveness at the entry point ...

Re: Acceptable # of balls for THS

I could easily go with 3, but I HATE 3-ball rollers and like my 4-ball stacker (wider wheel-base, splits into two sections, more pockets, etc.) so I take 4 (3 plus 1 spare)

Actually, as inconsistent as my house has been, having three has been a saving grace now and again. LOL

Re: Bowling w/Tennis Elbow Injury - PRP injection

Ok first night of fall league. Had only bowled a few times all summer. I took alot of time off after state tournament in June. Anyway shot 718 and bowled just about pain free all night. This is 3 weeks post PRP injection. For reference I'm about a 220 house shot avg bowler. I'm always happy with a ...

Re: Very Odd Lane Effect and why did it happen?

Does playing from the extreme outside make the pocket wider? I have seen players like Barnes playing 4 or even 3 down and in and getting tons of strikes. Or does playing from out there only increase entry angle, but the pocket remains small? It is entirely situational. If the pattern is long and wi...

Re: Using a 15 and a 16 pound ball in the same game?

One of the very few things upon which coaches and PSO's agree is that using balls of different weights is a really bad idea for the very reason you state: it can really mess with your timing. It can - if you're an old veteran who has a ton of muscle memory, then it may well not impact. My White-Dot...

Re: Multipoint targeting

The point of it is that you are bowling a LINE. Well, an arc, but it starts out as a line. If you just think about it, aiming at a single point (a dot or an arrow) won't give you a line. I've seen people say, "I hit my mark" with the ball traveling directly into the channel (ROFL) or crossing over b...

Re: lane machines

Price is not always dictated on tooling and manufacturing parts. R&D also goes into the cost. I am sure a pretty penny went into creating the stepper motors to work with the sprayer, to work with the LCD screen that would need to be coded and tested. Kegel is also out there to make money. If it was...

Re: lane machines

I'm in the tech industry (well, academia anyway, but I actually DO the tech around here, LOL) and I've wondered the same thing. I know motors can be expensive, but steppers with that torque don't cost all that much when we're talking about 5 figures. . . The spray tech either is or could be adapted ...

Re: Bowling Shoes - your experience, observations, opinions

I cannot speak from experience and have not attempted to bowl since about 2005, may never bowl again ... I used and was always satisfied with Linds Classics with Buckskin slide soles. Many new bowler's might have similar questions, so this thread might serve as a focal point. Regarding variable sol...

Re: bowling after the pro's.....

Did they recondition the lanes or were you bowling on their pattern? If they did, did they do a full strip and re-oil? Or did they just do a typical thing?

Do you know the pattern they were bowling on?

Re: 2 handed drilling with thumbhole

Hello, I have been experimenting with 2 handed bowling since I have had an injury on my hand. It starts to go the right way but I have seen some bowlers using their thumb even when they use a two handed style. I would like to give this a try to see if you can have more control with this. I was wond...

Re: How to adjust to DRY lanes

Now that is some good stuff, thank you. One thing that you mentioned struck a chord with me off the bat - what the other bowlers are doing. We were playing against a team of... nice people, that were throwing straight balls. We had to give them 80 pins, due to handicaps. I realized later that 2 of ...

Re: Help Nord Score On House Shots

Ah, don't cheat yourself. Sure you deserve it. The point I was making is, if a person hits the pocket solidly time and time again with the wrong ball and never get strikes on good shots, that person deserves carry because they are doing nothing wrong. They simply have the wrong ball. Put a proper b...

Re: knee bend

All of that said, sometimes we can't do much knee bend. I have no cartilage in my left (slide) knee and wear a DonJoy unloader brace and can't do much of any bend while bowling. Yes, I need to lose weight and am working on that, but most weight loss activities include either a pool (no access to one...

I am a Silver Level Certified Coach and I have written nearly 100 articles for BTM over the past 11 years. What does that have to do with my comment about what you said about "deserving" more pin carry? I would say the exact same thing to anyone who came to me for help and made a senseless comment ...
