Re: PGA did it, now it's Bowlings turn

Yet the modern center operational model is to focus less on league bowling and try to get a larger percentage of income from peripheral activities - video game and crane machines, snack bar, vending machines, alcohol sales where they can and things like laser tag that one center near me offers. Its...

Re: PGA did it, now it's Bowlings turn

^^^^^^This is not a problem in my area. Leagues have the ability to dictate whatever handicap bases they want, to the point hi average bowlers can not even compete. This is not up to the center. Get a league meeting together, and try 100% of 240. Problem solved. The problem doesn't get solved that ...

Re: PGA did it, now it's Bowlings turn

The young Wes Low Jr, in above video, was the youngest ever (beating Petey by a couple years) to win a PBA Regional (non winner event) recently in Vegas. Matt Jones I had seen bowl (on video) previously. Unique style, maybe even a true two handed release. I hear he has been successful in west coast ...

Re: PGA did it, now it's Bowlings turn

It's sooooo not a jealously thing. It's more of a major concern for the youth begin tricked score wise by this type of style and it show an inflated average because of the crazy area they create combined with the other issue we have of way to soft of conditions. Come "real condition" time, reality ...

Re: PGA did it, now it's Bowlings turn

Here's the rub - the better bowlers, with time, will figure out what it takes to score, while the not so proficient bowlers will likely never figure it out. The better bowlers might not be carrying 220 anymore, but most will get back to around 200 within a season or two. Now, put those same guys ba...

Re: PGA did it, now it's Bowlings turn

And to the house across town because it will have to keep up with the Jones's. You can't blame a proprietor for making his living the only way he sees possible. I was relatively old when I started bowling & seeing 170 to 180 bowlers picking some spares and occasionally stringing a few strikes, just...

Re: PGA did it, now it's Bowlings turn

That same exact scenario happened to one of my leagues where it started out as a women's league and became a mixed league (had 20 teams when I first joined) and it has gone downhill every year since. Last year there were only 7 teams and they allowed two 4 men teams to join which they finished 1st ...

Re: PGA did it, now it's Bowlings turn

Any proprietor that continues to put out such an easy condition is contributing to the demise of his business. Over the last few years bowling has seen another large exodus of bowlers, largely due to the economy. As a result of fewer bowlers, existing leagues are absorbing those whose leagues dissol...

Re: How big of drill press do I need??

Why would you need a drill press with 17" of swing for bowling balls that are only about 8-1/2" in diameter? 17" (advertised) swing has the spindle/chuck 8.5" from column. Outside of a few older made in the USA 15" swing, anything smaller has too short of spindle travel and a base or table too smal...

lane conditioning. But that cat is out of the bag. edit; I am sorry I was the (first) one that took this thread off topic. It just seems that when the discussion of two hand/thumbless bowling comes up, lane conditioning seems to be the major contributing factor that allows the (young) bowlers to thr...

Re: My Columbia Blue Dot (new or old?)

You posted this message right when I was replying. :) So, in 1980, those were the high 80s/low 90s durometer readings, weren't they? -Pat I'm pretty sure your ball was manufactured before June 1980. Columbia started with year then P (I believe) to start production runs from the mid-seventies and ch...

1980 per serial # 0Z. It should have started to 'yellow' a little bit from the aging of the resin.

Re: bevel knife and workout pull tool

I'd like to add that with the work out tool, you can remove material quickly from the hole. I have found it's best to use the work out tool on urethane slugs. If you're not careful using the work out tool, it's real easy to carve grooves in the hole you are opening up. Plus, using it on balls with o...

Re: A couple of questions about PAPs that change ball to bal

Kelly Tehuna a while back posted the varying PAP's of I think it was 8 or 9 balls. If I remember correctly they all were in a 1.5" square. The PAP off the hand may be the same but the first oil ring will be dependent upon where the ball is laid down in relation to where the lane conditioner begins. ...

Re: How to eliminate drifitng to the ball side.

Thanks for all the help and information guys. I'll try to get a video for the Coaching forum. My current approach is I line up left big toe on 30 ~6" behind the front set of dots. I keep my focus on 8 at 45 feet (using the mark on 10 as refernce) Doing this my slide ends up on 25-26 foot angled sli...

Re: surprisingly quick plug job

Please do tell what the packaging tape trick is :D I believe it's used over the foam dam of the thumb to plug both fingers and thumb at the same time. In the early eighties, I use to do something similar with clay when I was plugging 20+ balls a week. I haven't tried it lately due to the volume & h...

Re: Odd Drilling

I would suggest you do nothing to the ball ( or even after plugging) until the cg is confirmed on a scale. It could have the cg mismarked. Back in the day, I had four cases of Track Triton Heats that several per case had the cg mislabeled by up to 3". Most of those were real close to pin-in. The one...
