Re: The story so far how much does it cost to plug and drill?

J - have you reviewed items on this forum's wiki? It is a very good source of information and also contains links to other resources. I remind you that virtually all of Norm Dukes lessons from his instructional DVD is available for FREE on YouTube. They are all fairly short. Here is one of his lesso...

Re: The story so far how much does it cost to plug and drill?

All very good advice.
A plastic ball on today's oil will be like driving on ice.
You may try to make the ball do something it really can't.

Re: Returning to bowling after COVID Shutdown

Before we get into a war over things, let's agree to disagree. The CDC has a website and folks can visit and subscribe to email updates. WHO and Johns Hopkins are other resources. PBS ran a story June 13 https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/cdc-releases-guidelines-to-daily-life-to-reduce-spread-of-co...

Re: Returning to bowling after COVID Shutdown

I went to the bowling center yesterday to pick up league money. I decided to bowl a couple of games since I have not touched a ball for the last three months. The center was renting single lanes, every other one for open play. I was very distressed to see that I was the only bowler in the place who...

Re: Returning to bowling after COVID Shutdown

I bolded your last point there, that is absolutely huge. My home town has a really reliable group but I can only hope we can bring enough business to support them. A town over, Peru, IL from me got new owners the day before the shutdown hit, i'm a bit worried for them, but the owners still have day...

Re: Pain in upper joint middle finger after bowling?

As boomer said, we are not trying to rush you. The folks here that care enough to reply, are doing so to be helpful, they have your well being in mind as well as your enjoyment and progress in the sport. I assume the person that recommended a ten pound ball, did so for a good reason, perhaps it suit...

Re: Pain in upper joint middle finger after bowling?

jaimelion, if recall correctly, you are from a small town with limited bowling resources. In your quest for a good bowling pro-shop, try to get reviews and references. I had my very first ball drilled back in the 80's a plastic ball, conventional grip. Let's just say he did not do a good job. Fast f...

Re: Does cosmic bowling etc help you train at all?

Cosmic Bowling is the name of a bowling center near me. But I don't think you are asking about a bowling center. Can you tell us what you mean. Jim, "Cosmic Bowling" is a pseudo branding of a recreational format. It's also known as Glow Bowling. A somewhat random example. Setups vary. Attendance va...

Re: Pain in upper joint middle finger after bowling?

jaimelion, bowling should not hurt. List of usual suspects: The way the ball fits your hand; Your bowling technique. Concerns, potential injury, failure to reach potential, leaving the sport due to 1 and or 2. If you have your hand analyzed and measured, once you learn how to relax and roll it, you ...

Re: pin carry. 12 lb balls

Eric's point above about splitting the pocket was illustrated on a video, years ago. A ramp was set up down lane and various weight balls were rolled down the ramp from several angles to prove that ANGLE OF ENTRY was king. Phase of ball motion at impact another key! A few months ago, a coach I know,...

USBC vs. ETBF

Some folks have experience with both organizations.
I'd be interested in your observations. What can one learn from the other.
What are the strengths and weaknesses.
Which organization does more to benefit bowlers and the sport of bowling and why do you feel that way.

Re: Why does no one like the USBC?

As Boomer wrote, it's difficult to 100% satisfy everyone in a large group of people.

Perhaps a satisfaction rating say 1-10 with the high number being the most favorable score ???

Re: House balls with scraps and groves and dents?

Jaimelion, do you put your thumb in the ball? If you do, and you use a house ball, invariably you will have to apply too much grip pressure and find it difficult to have consistent "thumb timing". If you bowl a lot, you may develop some physical ailments, and bad technique. Imagine wearing shoes tha...

Re: USBC Emergency rule changes

In terms of dealing with COVID-19, IT IS SERIOUS, REALLY SERIOUS . I know people that have had the disease, several recovered, several did not. USBC's half-witted attempt to calm someone's nerves is not very well thought out, as usual. Good leadership is often hard to come by. It's important that w...
