Re: Opinion: Why is bowling dying? Our game is deeply flawed

I agree with everything mentioned in the OP, but it’s missing, IMO, one of the largest factors. Money, and the expectations that come with it. For all the faults in our game, I rarely hear someone quit because of most of the reasons presented. Maybe they stop bowling competitively for some of those ...

Re: Ajusting.... Learn Something

One thing hasnt changed, in any well executed form of sport it takes dedication and repetition to perform at a high level. Bowlers are losing that now because of attitudes like the above quoted. Its too bad. Some of us are dedicated to expanding our skill set to be prepared to attack any condition ...

Re: Absorption Rate Fact vs Friction

But a given ball’s rate of oil absorption determines how efficiently you can make those changes in the oil on the lane. I’ve seen some of these modern urethane balls, Black Widow urethane for example, that hook a bunch. If you select a reactive that covers the same amount of boards on shot one (sha...

Re: Absorption Rate Fact vs Friction

Because nobody goes to the bowling alley, rolls one shot, and goes home. You can influence the shot by creating friction with a reactive piece, thus influencing ball motion *as the session progresses*. But what is actually influencing the ball motion as the session progresses? Wouldnt it be the cha...

Re: Absorption Rate Fact vs Friction

To me, “oil absorption effects ball motion” means that oil absorbed in the front of the lane has a direct effect on the rest of the path of the ball in that throw. I don’t have any science to fall back on here, but I struggle to understand how the ball could be absorbing the oil in a meaningful way ...

According to the article posted in the OP, the men are going to remove the double burn in their US Open.

Yes, I'm making an assumption that they'll keep 3 squads. I don't have any inside information about that.

But as you said, there's no fair way to do two squads, and the length of the tournament suggests (to me) 3 days for qualifying.

Re: No double burn for the 2018 U.S. Open

https://www.11thframe.com/news/article/10428/Double-burn-squad-is-out-for-2018-US-Open They are saying that there will still be 3 8 game qualifying squads. This does not make sense, because that means some bowlers will get fresh 2 times or burn 2 times while others do not. I would think they would ...

Re: USBC Open Championships 2018

I've seen a lot of success in team from the softly thrown ball, up the boards around 5 with some surface that doesnt change direction too fast. Singles and doubles apparently is significantly tighter. Intel would be a good ball for team event if everyone can buy into playing the pattern from the ri...

Re: Don't let Teams post bowl if they don't want to etc

I find it odd there are leagues that do not allow postponements when USBC clearly states leagues cannot outlaw them. I don't know if these leagues are sanctioned or not, but sanctioned leagues must allow post-bowling. Leagues rules can certainly prohibit post-bowling. Rule 111a says as much - Team ...

Re: Don't let Teams post bowl if they don't want to etc

I haven’t been in a league that allows post bowling since juniors.

Regardless, I stopped reading at “let’s forfeit, we can’t win” and “why not, I needed to lower my average so we can win something later.”

Congrats on whatever FIGJAM is in the rest of the post.

(Nord, please excuse me, I said I was done with this BS, but this is the kind of stuff that ABSOLUTELY infuriates me). The whole premise of the above statement is so un-athletic, I threw up in my mouth. Nord is a tennis player! He knows, better yet, he FEELS when he has executed an athletic movemen...

Re: what do you think of this amf gold angle i found

Brian Valenta won a regional on cheetah a few years back using a Manhattan Rubber. No, I don’t think a urethane ball is “better” than a reactive ball for the vast majority of bowlers on the vast majority of conditions. But as Brian proved, literally any ball could be the best look in the house if th...

Re: Should bowling be in the Olympics?

There is a difference between missing your target, getting lucky and an accident. How many 3 pointers get scored when you miss outside the ring altogether? A deflection off a player in soccer or hockey for a goal isn't usually the intention of the striker, just luck like you said. Elite racket spor...

Just a question, because I really dont know.... Is there any other Olympic sport that success is so heavily weighed on the equipment as bowling is? We all heard it before "you cant out bowl bad ball reaction". IMO, Golf is just as dependent on equipment (and no other sport is close, other...

Re: USBC New Ball Specs

Most of the events in the Winter Olympics say hi. How are those little countries expected to compete there? Not really a valid argument. In terms of changing environments, many outdoor events are affected by the weather - especially the wind. Any event that has athletes competing to post times and ...

Re: Should bowling be in the Olympics?

You also left out BMX racing. First off, I love bowling, but can you name one Olympic sport or event where a mistake is rewarded with a maximum score? Well, sure. In basketball, a 3 pointer counts as 3 whether it’s a swish, off the backboard, or takes 8 bounces off the rim. In hockey, goals can be ...

Re: USBC New Ball Specs

Has anyone seen anything that states which current balls would be illegal under the oil absorption rule? I haven’t figured out yet if this is a roll back or just prevention for the future. I’m largely indifferent to the rule changes. I’ll miss my hole down VAL, but it won’t ruin my game. I already l...

Re: How Do You Rate........

Off the top of my head, I have about 12 bowling alleys within a 30 minute drive of me. The house I consider my “home house” is the furthest of those. It’s also a family-owned business that takes great care of their regulars and know everyone by name. The owners are all bowlers that bowl in the leagu...
