Re: New arsenal build

Some changes to this lineup. The outcast has basically be removed, I may have to pull it back out to see if it works better now that I've been back to bowling for awhile. I picked up a Turmoil 2 Pearl that is laid out almost identical to the No Rules for pin placement which was supposed to be a step...

Re: sharing drilling sheet specs with customers

I'm one of those people who asked for the sheet for my files. I did that specifically for a case in which I may be out of town and need to have a ball or switch grip drilled on short notice. I'm not out here shopping around for the cheapest option, I just don't want to be screwed or sink a bunch of ...

Re: IT vs Switch Grip

I have switch grips in several balls. No real issues with them, but it's the only experience I have with swap-able grips. I do know it's really nice to have a consistent fit when I switch balls.

Re: Summer - The season of?

The season of getting back into bowling league. I did things a bit backward and jumped straight into scratch tournaments at the tail end of winter when I came back from a long long break from bowling. Now I was able to join a league for the spring/summer. Three big benefits are I get to meat people ...

Re: Changing Span and Thumb Pitch

I've been thinking about this as well. The problem I have with a shorter grip is that I tend to dig my fingers in and end up with closer to a conventional grip instead of fingertip. However, I understand that shortening the grip and going zero reverse to even some forward can make it easier to not "...

Re: Summer leagues

There's a single's scratch league Thursdays here that I joined. It plays like a sweeper tournament every week. $20 you bowl 3 games across 3 pairs and top 4 have a roll off for a small payout. If you get 4th you bowled for free because you get your 20 back. then it's 25 for 3rd, 30 for 2nd and 40 fo...

Marathon tournaments?

Has anyone bowled in or heard of marathon-ish style tournaments? I mean where you bowl 10+ games at a time? I don't mean split block, where you have an hour or more between shifts to recover. Just straight through 10+ games. I don't know if it's common or not for others, but I can bowl a lot of game...

Re: PBA Playoffs. HATE the shouting.

So a 10 nothing baseball game, a blow-out in foot ball, and other high vs low scoring situations are exciting? From my experience, people usually get bored during that type of experience. Being a baseball fan, there is an excitement in home runs, but the controversy is what really draws the fans an...

Re: PBA Playoffs. HATE the shouting.

At first, I felt the same way. The shouting is too much. Then I thought about it at practice. As I got up on the approach, the little kid in the lane next to me stood right in front of me and the parents didn't care. The other side had a bunch of wild people shouting for any reason you can think of...

Re: PBA Playoffs. HATE the shouting.

The lack of consideration for others is not confineed to PBA events. I have seen it and heard it on radio and TV discussion programs, Everyone on the 'panel' seems to believe their opinion must be heard over all other speakers. As a result several people speak at the same time. I turn the program o...

Re: Of Dual Patterns and Practice Gambits

I thought about this post today because I just signed up for a dual pattern tournament next month. I'm not too knowledgeable about oil patterns but these look like a pretty drastic difference in how they should play: Long = 48 ft 1.9 to 1 @ 30ML volume Short = 2.2 to 1 @ 31ML volume The idea of prac...

Re: How to adjust when everyone on lanes are using urethane

Yeah, it was 2 guys with the Purple hammer and one guy with the fever pitch. I don't think the Fever pitch was doing quite as much damage as the 2 with the purple. I never even contemplated pulling out my heavy surface ball, I left it in the car. I'll make sure to keep that with me next time.

Re: How to adjust when everyone on lanes are using urethane

You're describing a reverse block. Why not get left of them & use that burn track they created to bump off of? OR move right up the outside, in the oil, with something stronger that will finish? I did remember hearing to move right and throw straighter up the outside, the problem with that was the ...

Re: How to adjust when everyone on lanes are using urethane

What you are describing isn’t an over/under reaction. Over/under happens when the lanes are wet/dry with a lot of oil in the middle and a lot dry boards to the outsides. For righthanders, when you miss right, the ball gets to the dry boards too early and overreacts to the dry and hooks high or cros...

Re: How to adjust when everyone on lanes are using urethane

IMO, You have plenty of options open to you. Carry down side: If there is carry down on the right side, give your ball some more time on the lane by moving back on the approach. You may want to try a ball with a high diff which will give you more backend(but avoid those mids!). Dry mid: Get a ball ...

How to adjust when everyone on lanes are using urethane

So yesterday was the first time since I've been back bowling that I've had the experience of being the only one not using urethane on my lanes. I ended up at a complete loss of what to do because it seemed like I was stuck in an extreme over/under reaction scenario if I didn't split the boards. Anyt...

Re: oval vs round thumb slug and huge gap it creates

You have gaps in the front and back from the oval but you didn't from the round? That seems strange to me given that an oval is typically wider side to side than it is front to back. I just recently went to custom drilled oval thumbholes and it's the exact opposite for me. I went from having gaps al...

How bad is my backswing/release

Ok, so I know typically both a behind and side video is required, but there is rarely/if ever enough open lanes to the side to record that angle. So, hopefully I can get some feedback on what can be seen wrong just from the back angle. Basically, I think I can see that my arm gets behind my body a b...

Re: New arsenal build

Ok, I think I have my arsenal basically all set. Looking at BTM ball comparison I have a good range of ball strength and length. Currently have in order of strength: DV8 Outcast, Motiv Tribal, Hammer Widow Legend, and RotoGrip No Rules. Strength differences between are +3, +5, +3. When bowling on th...

Re: Style purists(?).

Do they have an advantage? Of course, high rev and high speed typically equates to better scores. That's not always the case, of course, because the player still needs to execute the shot and there is always that element of luck. Is it an unfair advantage? No. All that said, I'm not a fan of the sty...
