Re: Switch to lefty progress

A pro bowler at the center I bowl at asked me once, when I was finished practicing, "How did it feel?" This was back in February, a few weeks before my right wrist, for lack of a better description, exploded. So I told him my scores. He shook his head, smiling, "Numbers in practice do...

Hammer Orange Vibe vs. Hustle INK?

Anyone know if the reaction and shape of these two would be similar or not?

Re: Brunswick Rhino or Tropical Storm?

I got Ron at Merri Bowl in Livonia MI to drill a Counter Attack Pearl for my daughter. Mo Personally fit her and laid out the ball. Ball goes long and gets into a roll smoothly or can go long and snap depending on axis rotation at release. Great ball and very versatile, strongly recommend it over t...

Brunswick Rhino or Tropical Storm?

Looking to maybe add an entry level reactive to my lefty arsenal. I had a Tropical Storm when I bowled righty, but it could still be a little too angular sometimes. I have read some reviews on the new Tropical Surge, but many reviewers are reporting it to be stronger than the Tropical Storm. Reviews...

Re: Switch to lefty progress

Very encouraging practice last night. 158, 168, 169 after three games not keeping score, practiced hitting targets on the lane. 7 pin is proving to be a daunting spare, as 10 pin was for me right handed.

Re: Switch to lefty progress

Hi Mark, you definitely have a winning attitude. I recall that one of the common traits Navy Seals share is that they refuse to quit. They are all physically strong, but it is their strong WILL that makes the cut. Be aware of your body alignment and your intended line. Know where you start, where y...

Re: Switch to lefty progress

I started keeping track of my scores now, just as a yardstick to begin tracking my progress. After 9 games, I'm averaging about 145. Main problems so far are repeating good shots, hitting my target on the lane and converting spares on the left side. My average righty was 195. I'm about 50 games into...

Re: Switch to lefty progress

Okay, the progress continues. More and more shots are finding the pocket and I'm leaving lots of single pin leaves. But that's fine for now, still learning how to reverse where I used to stand as a righty and flipping it to the left side. In an earlier post about ball speed being slow, I realized la...

Re: The weakest solid cover reactive ball?

Hi Mark. Mark, here are some resources used by forum members "What resources do you use to research bowling balls?" http://forum.bowlingchat.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=14285&p=111811&hilit=resources#p111811" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If you want to k...

The weakest solid cover reactive ball?

Folks, I'm bowling lefty now due to a permanent injury to my right hand.
I stepped down to 14 pounds to bowl lefty. My ball speed is still very slow and I'm working on that.
What is the weakest solid cover reactive currently available?

Thanks again everyone.

Re: Switch to lefty progress

I rolled a 174 last night after 4 games of not paying attention to scoring, focusing on getting my left arm and both feet working together.
Very encouraging.

Re: Switch to lefty progress

After a chat with my local PSO, I took his suggestion to drop down to 14 pounds since my left hand and arm will not be as strong in the beginning. He gave me a great deal on a used, single-drill Pitch Black. Thursday was my first day out with the ball. There were some bad shots and there were many g...

Re: Switch to lefty progress

I was using a 12 pound house ball. Tomorrow I'm having a couple of my bowling balls plugged and redrilled for my left hand. Which means I'm stepping up to 15 pounds. I'm having them drilled conventional, not finger tip. This will give me less hook while I learn how to adjust my release left handed. ...

Switch to lefty progress

The first attempt was difficult. But Sunday night something clicked and I rolled a 151.
I was happy with it. Throwing lefty is beginning to feel less and less awkward.

Re: TFCC tear, switch to left hand?

The other night I grabbed a house ball off the rack. I brought tape with me to make the ball fit my left hand better. Three games I did not break a hundred. There was not a single throw where I said, "Hey, that was encouraging." I tried suit case style, ala Nord, a month ago but discovered...

Re: TFCC tear, switch to left hand?

I did it when I injured my elbow (moving a couch . . . leverage and angles and such) - I had a VERY hard time with coordination (I'm VERY right-dominant) but I had fun. I took an old ball and drilled it up lefty, bought another set of shoes, and had a sympathetic friend come and help me. I had to g...

TFCC tear, switch to left hand?

Hi folks, the MRI results are back and it's very bad. After a consultation with my doctor, I have tears in a ligament and a tear in the central disc in my wrist. I'm 60 years old. Worse, he said he would not consider surgery an option due to the bad arthritis around the tears. He said bowling didn't...

Re: Weak resin balls for slower ball speed

Mark, I hope your wrist is recovering satisfactorily. While recovering have you worn a wrist device for protection? What was your rehab protocol? Just wondering - Can you explain why your wrist injury has impacted your ball speed (not wrist action). If you wear a wrist device and let your hand ride...

Cover strength and core strength

Folks, how much of a ball's shape and strength is dictated by its core or cover?
Is it a 50/50 split? Or does the cover effect motion more than the core?
