Hey all, I have also posted this in the certified coaching section but I want as much feedback as I can get so please feel free to give me some advice and guidance. 2 handed - form critique

Hey all, I have decided to go back to throwing 2 handed. I have been bowling for 2 years now and a year ago I have experimented with throwing 2 handed for about 2 months. I switched back to 1 handed because my friends said it was better for me but I eventually lost the fun in bowling due to thumb pr...

Re: Which layout should work for this one?

Any chance you can get him more behind the ball at release so he can back off the axis rotation? He’s gonna need smooth balls with surface and control layouts, Counter Attack Solid, IQ Tour and Web Tour come to mind. Thanks for the reply. I have told him many times but he just likes the way he play...

Which layout should work for this one?

Hey all, I have a team member who used to like the very strong reaction type of balls but since his rev's have improved he's having a lot of trouble keeping his ball on target when we have a longer league night. He's looking for a slowly arcing motion instead of a heavy change of direction. I was wo...

Re: Cover strength and core strength

Personally, I don't think you can put numbers on it. It is the combination of the 2 which is important. You also have to figure weak covers seem stronger on dry lanes so you have covers which grab the dry hard (skid in oil) and covers with teeth that won't react much on dry conditions. It is the co...

Re: Thumb problems preventing clean release

I’ve been having similar problems with my thumb coming out clean the four years that I’ve been learning how to bowl. At least until last month while talking about this issue with one of my bowling friends. He told me that he puts most of the thumb pressure at the base of the thumb with the thumb na...

Thumb problems preventing clean release

Hello, One of my team mates was getting pretty consistent and having an average of 180. But although his scores were quite good, his technique was a bit strange. He was coming around the ball pretty much and even pulling the ball towards him instead of the spin direction towards the pins. Now he has...

Thank you I will try that out as soon as i get a chance.

For now I have sanded it up to 2000 and then added a less shiny polish. He's happy with the reaction so far.

Re: Difference 2000 grit + polish vs 4000 grit + polish

If the Intense Fire is too clean through the front, try a hand-rubbed 500/2000 finish with fresh pads and skip the step2/polish. The Trucut pads are really good for hand-rubbed finishes. That seems interesting and I was thinking of the same thing but the problem is my friend wants it polished so it...

Re: Hammer purple urethane

I would have proposed 80 x 3.5" x 50. But don't pin yourself to my suggestion. I'm just starting digging deeper into drilling and layouts.

Is my suggestion wrong or can this work too?

Re: Hammer purple urethane

It would be helpful if you can give some more information about your release specs.
Speed, Tilt, Rotation, Revs and perhaps even the type of pattern you play mostly.

Based on those numbers it's possible to give a more accurate layout

Re: Difference 2000 grit + polish vs 4000 grit + polish

There are no absolutes if you don’t have a scanner but you can get close. If OOB was too long, then a 2000 w/polish will be even longer as most OOB are 500 compound or 500/1000 compound. The best way is to have pads/polish with you and throw a shot and make adjustment to get desired result. Thanks ...

Difference 2000 grit + polish vs 4000 grit + polish

Hello all, I would like to know if it will give much difference if you do a bowling ball resurfacing and sand it to 2000 grit and finish it with a polish compared to the same ball but sanded up to 4000 grit with the same polish. I'm still a beginner in the technical side of bowling and although I re...

Going from 2-handed to 1 handed bowler

Hey all, I have a friend who has been in to bowling for 1,5 year now. He asked me if I could help him transitioning from 2 handed to 1 handed with thumb. The reason that he wants to change is because he had an accident while horseback riding (in the past) and he's unsure if he will be able to stay u...

Re: New rotation/tilt overlay

You need to use a video editing program, where you can place the overlay in a video layer above the footage, and then zoom in on the ball until they match. I use Sony Vegas. You also need to make sure you are videoing directly behind the launch angle of the ball. The attached example has 40 degrees...

I let him throw his spare ball and here is the result of where his track line was when using his spare ball. Please ignore the fact that it is a different ball it is only for reference. https://preview.ibb.co/nwMPZf/46513580-2159824874283575-7686207180101386240-n.jpg Here is the layout of the ball h...

Re: Adjusting track line (low tilt) - 6" PAP

If the track is going over his fingers and thumb and not between them like a full roller you probably don’t need a full roller layout. He is a low tilt player with a high track. Draw a line from the ring finger to his PAP and keep the pins above that line, no pin downs for this guy. Keep pin to pap...

Adjusting track line (low tilt) - 6" PAP

Hey all, I have someone who asked me for help since our local pro shop doesn't seem to be able to fix it. He is having problems with his track going over his fingers and thumb. From what I have seen and measured he has the following stats: Speed: 14mph Revs: 350rpm Axis tilt: 5-10° Axis rotation: 70...

Motiv Hydra 2 different layouts

Hello all, My friend has a Motiv Hydra and he loves it but it can sometimes be a little bit to snappy, aggresive for him. He now wants to buy a second one with a different layout to use it when the first one becomes to snappy. He bowls every tuesday in a house league so almost every time the same con...

How to drill asymmetric so it becomes (almost) symmetric

Hello all, I have been wondering if it is possible to achieve a symmetric-like bowling ball and ball motion by changing the angles of your layout. I have seen a video about the Track Alias where they accomplished it. Now my question is, is it possible to achieve this on any bowling asymmetric bowlin...
