Re: Coaching 2 handers

As per most bowlers, I like them to finish their slide close to the foul line so they don't get in the habit of lofting just to get the ball onto the lane.

Re: Coaching 2 handers

Kyle Troup are Chris Via are 'P' types. As for step lengths, due to the shorter back swing 2-handers usually have, the steps can't get too long. Similar timing principle to 1-handers where you want them walking passed the ball and creating some lag so the ball can swing freely and not be pulled down...

Re: Coaching 2 handers

Hi, there are lots of variables with 2-handers and they are all a bit different. Below are some of my coaching notes for 2-handers: There are generally two types of swings, Type 'P' and Type 'O'. Type ‘P’ = Perpendicular Perpendicular to the line of movement. 90 degrees. Hips are responsible for dir...

Re: Polished bus sanded ball

It will depend on who is throwing the ball (ball roll stats), the oil pattern and how many games have been bowled on the pattern. There is no simple one rule fits all approach.

Re: layout advise for high tilt on THS

Hi Eric, I was looking at the first post: rev rate 300, tilt 20, rotation 55, speed 18 of the hand

"The higher tilt helps counteract the rev dominance you have."

I see the release stats as speed dominant.

Re: Finding path to Exit Point - When moving

Hi Gary, I understand what the fall back shot is, I'm just thinking about the math of the angle the ball is on to get from 23 board at 54' to 17-18 board by or before 60'. The ball is covering 5 boards left to right in less than 6 feet and then changing direction enough to take out the 5 pin. But go...

Re: Finding path to Exit Point - When moving

- If the oil is 54 feet the Exit point is 23 (fall back shot) and the Breakpoint point is 17, 18 (again a "fall back shot").

I can't see how this shot is possible, exiting the oil at 23 board at 54' and getting to 17, 18 board in the 6' between the end of the oil and the head pin?

Re: Ball tracking over middle finger hole

Hi Rick, sorry for the late reply, your post must have flown under my radar. I think your release looks ok. Looking at the ball you may have very low or zero tilt, maybe slightly negative, which may cause the initial track to be over your middle finger. What ball did you get? What layout is on it? E...

Re: Foot work practice at home on carpeted surfaces

It's interesting what Shannon does in her power step as generally it is a quick transfer of weight here to keep your momentum going into the slide. Those with late timing like Shannon tend to slow down before the slide to wait for the ball, but she is using her lower body/ legs really well to stay l...

Transition Ball and Layout

Hi everyone, as a follow up to the Fresh Oil ball and Layout post, I'm interested in what would be the next ball and layout that is used once the lanes start to transition. Same scenarios: Sports patterns and THS. Assume a medium length sports pattern in the range of 38' to 42'. What ball are you go...

Having done instructional seminars and personalized coaching for quite some time, one question just occurred to me, should coaches have expectations too? Expectations of the athlete? Yes. I'm not going to waste my time and effort on someone who in 6 months/a year gives the game away because it all ...

Re: Wide Pockets

Something I've been noticing bowling in 1 league and subbing, has anyone else noticed with the 0 unit rule, proprietors offsetting the headpins to the left? It allows the guys that stuff the ball in front of the headpin to strike more and guys that play in to strike less with more angle. I've seen ...

That was my initial thought too, the RG of the PAP once the ball is drilled would influence how 'fast' something would spin with the same force applied.
