Re: Mo's new layouts

Hi Eric,

Without balance holes, how would you lay out your sport pattern balls?

Short Oil Sport, Med length Sport, Long Oil Sport.

Let's say a case study of 400rpm, 18mph, 15* tilt and 50* rotation.

Thanks,
Dean

Hi, Ideally it would be good to see you head to toe from the beginning, and a side view, but see the attached PDF for some feedback.

Fresh Oil Ball and Layout

Hi everyone, as bowling chat is a bit quiet of late, I thought I'd raise some topics to get some feedback and different opinions. I'm interested to know how people go about bowling on fresh oil. Sports patterns and THS. Assume a medium length sports pattern in the range of 38' to 42'. What ball are ...

Hi, that's fine if you can send them (they may be too big), or upload them to YouTube and share the link.

Re: Flare position on ball and release technique overall

Hi Helios, I'll try and respond to your queries. 1) Where the oil rings are tells you what type of roll you have on the ball. If the first ring has moved away from your fingers a bit, you may have increased your tilt a bit, and likely your PAP has changed as well. I know a lot of bowlers where the f...

Re: What is BowlingChat worth to you?

Hi John, my latest BTM article was on the bowler/ coach relationship, and I'm currently writing one called 'What a teacher can teach a coach'. Re Bowling Chat, I've learnt so much on here from 2010 onwards, plus getting a lot of outside support from Jim M and also helping him at times too. I think a...

Re: What is BowlingChat worth to you?

I am happy to do video analysis in the coaching section when I have the time and the required angles in real time are submitted, but as far as I have seen, there have only been a few videos posted in the certified coaching forum so far this year.

Re: where to move?

For a right-hander, these moves are essentially creating a parallel launch angle about 1 board apart, but it's a bit more complex than that. Moving left 1 board with your feet may only create 1/2 board laydown difference depending on your approach, and over the same target, whereas same feet and tar...

Re: Dual Angle Layout Tool

Hi John, I've been studying bowling for about 12 years now, and yes I only got my USBC Silver level in 2016 so I could coach Australian teams as it is a TBA requirement. I didn't learn anything new in the process of doing the Bronze and Silver courses, but I guess they give you some credibility. I w...

Hi Glenn, that looks interesting but I still prefer to do them manually so I can customise the layouts and keep some 'art' in there.

Re: Optimal Axis Rotation

I had a play around with your calculator. Thanks for the link. I set the RPM at 400 and changed the ball speed. Not sure if this is speed off the hand, end of the lane or an average, but basically the rotation increases as ball speed increases. 15mph = 47.3 degrees 16mph = 50.5 degrees 17mph = 53.2 ...

There's a lot of misinformation and click bait YouTube videos out there from bowlers trying to make money from Google AdSense.

Re: Looking for a little help with angles...

I'll try and address some of your questions using my logic, based on some simple math. 1. If you do not know where to start from. Say you know the exit point is on 9 (40 ft pattern) Is there some math to calculate what board you should set the ball down at and what board at the arrows you should tar...

Re: Two Handed Bowling Styles: Type "O", Type "P".

Just to elaborate on John's post, the original of the Jesper article was publisehd in May 2016, with the only difference being the addition of the Lesson Plan at the end now. As for the styles John mentioned, here is some more info from my notes: Type ‘O’ = Open Ball in front of the body, walk aroun...
