Re: Storm | Pin Buffer Layout System - Part 1 & 2 & 3
I am currently struggling with a dual-angle conundrum. Lets say I have two bowlers with very similar metrics, but different PAP coordinates. If they both calculate to 60x4x40 layouts, the gripping holes will intersect the core differently for these two bowlers, and thus change the shape of the core...

Re: Gripping holes
How does turning the ball upside down change the post-drilling mass distribution of the weightblock? It doesn't. But it does change the pin-to-PAP distance and angle to the pin-to-spin line/distance to PSA. Assuming the PAP doesn't change much, a pin 2" from the PAP would change to nearly 5&qu...

Re: sharing drilling sheet specs with customers
I'm on the fence here. I think a good fit takes more know-how than drilling to specs. If a bowler can take their specs with them, then they can find the shop with the lowest prices as long as the PSO can read my handwriting. That kind of sucks. On the other hand, I think most serious bowlers know th...

More (less?) than -20 degrees of tilt is extreme. Unless you're considering a backup release...
I've only worked with two bowlers anywhere close to that. Mo calls them "over-rolled full-rollers".

Re: layout question
The standard spare ball (least hooking) layout is to drill the ball with 1/2 oz. negative side on the label. If you want to be anal (like me), drill the ball with the pin 6 3/4" from the PAP on the midline and put the balance hole on the negative axis point to make the side weight legal, if ne...

He has no data, just conjecture. I haven't read the article, but he has BluePrint software. I know it's just simulation, but that's some pretty good data. He's shown how BluePrint provides very good real-world simulation. I wouldn't say he has "no data" when making claims about drilling e...

Re: USBC New Ball Specs
On Saturday I drilled an (asymmetrical) ball for a customer. After throwing a few frames, he asked for just a bit more strength. I drilled a smallish P3 and he loved it. It's a shame that that fine-tuning measure is being removed. It certainly places an even higher premium on selecting the correct b...

Re: Vise Vacuum System
Thanks for the replies. Ours isn't used because of loss of suction. The PSO also mentioned three PVC pipes would get blocked in the corners. Oh well!

Re: Need help to my Guru Master
That's what my other balls usually look like, but the first track of this ball is very close to my thumb hole unless I intentionally give more tilt to it. As Eric said, your tilt is at least wrong. Your PAP might be wrong as well. It's worth remeasuring on that ball. Both of those can change with a...

Re: Need help to my Guru Master
1" total flare on a ball like that with a strong pin-to-PAP doesn't make much sense to me. Even with the higher drilling angle, that's surprising.
Maybe recheck your PAP and the layout on that ball to be sure?

Re: Bowling spinner style
In that sense, I get it. But, I'm curious how/why it works. Why would a lighter ball bowled straight do well? Does the spinning help with carry? Or does it help with consistency of release in some way? Why not roll a ball from the corner (standing far right or left) and bowl straight at the pocket?

Re: Bowling spinner style
What's the goal of this style? Seems like it takes away the lane play aspect entirely, which means you've got to be much more accurate. Low entry angle and lighter balls seem like they would hurt carry.

Re: Vise Vacuum System
Reviving this ooooold thread. The shop I'm in now has the system, but doesn't use it. When I asked they gave two reasons: 1) Not enough suction with the normal 6-6.5 HP shop vac. 2) Because we don't have another space to keep the vac, it's just as loud as before. (I guess they were told it could kee...

Re: Different bowling alleys / different house shots.
Your experience at Oil Bowl sounds pretty close to a typical house shot (THS) to me. It's designed for higher scores for a variety of bowlers. It doesn't punish misses very severely. The extra oil in the middle protects against missing left (for a righty). The lack of oil on the outside protects aga...

Re: A Dual Angle Worksheet ?
I like this format for interested bowler education. Probably insufficient for teaching a PSO how to make these decisions, but I'd love to have something like this to hand out. I have tried to explain the logic behind DA to quite a few people, but it's a lot to digest.

Re: please help
it's clipping ring finger. I read the Mods reply and thought I listed the wrong finger. will taking more weight out of the balance hole (P2) or any other hole can I move the track? 1/16 or 1/8 would get off of the ring finger. Thanks for the replies. I don't think drilling the P2 deep will have muc...

Re: please help
Is this right? You are a 3/4 roller (i.e. your track is to the left of your middle finger and thumb) You don't have this problem on other balls This ball fits the same as your other balls This ball flares a lot more than your other balls If all that sounds right, then I would guess that this layout ...

Re: please help
Is it hitting the ring finger on the backend? Do you see oil lines going over it or what?
Maybe it's flaring over the hole on the backend.
