Re: Drastic PAP Change

The person is a very good bowler too. He is a high torque, high rev player, his technique is solid. From every perspective, it looks like his delivery / release never changed. He had been scoring well, nothing warranted a closer look. Recently though, we drilled a low flare layout based on his old t...

Drastic PAP Change

Has anyone ever encountered a situation where a bowler's pap changed dramatically? The original stats were 5 3/4 x 1/4^. The new pap is 3 1/4 x 2 1/4^.
Personally, I have never seen a pap ever change to that degree.

No Thumb Layouts

There are two notable no-thumb layouts, one is the 2LS (Storm Layout), and the PAL (Mike Pinel).

Which do you use and why?

Re: How to regain confidence in my approach

All bowling centers are different. If you find a combination that works at a certain center, it would be a good idea to make a note.

Re: How to regain confidence in my approach

Nothing is simple in this game anymore. There are so many different types of lane surfaces it'll make a person's head spin. That does not include the overall condition of the surface either. You should stay with the shoe / heel combination that allows you to slide. Sure, it may feel like you can bar...

Re: newly drilled thumb slugs

Pin pointing the exact feel you're looking for is probably going to be a trial and error process. If you use a rotary tool, you'll be changing the texture of the entire hole. You could etch the slug by hand. This would allow greater control over the process. I've seen people use a nail to scratch ho...

Re: How to regain confidence in my approach

Falling on the approach is one of the more tramatic events that can happen in a bowling environment. It happens suddenly / unexpectedly. That sensation sends just about any person into a life preservation mode. Getting your confidence back will depend on you getting comfortable again. In today's bow...

Re: interchangeable thumb inserts

after a ball is drilled and in use, can It be changed over to interchangeable thumb inserts without being plugged. Do they just drill out the thumb slug and install a changeable thumb insert? In most cases, interchangeables can be installed in the ball without having to plug the thumb hole. *There ...

I wonder, has “the weight of the ball” issue ever been established through the use of a robo bowler?

Re: Turbocharged Purple Pearl ??!!

Agreed, when a bowling ball comes in contact with friction, that torque created by the core of a bowling ball is a factor. (We all know the coverstock has a lot of influence). In the video, given that the coverstocks are relatively the same, the difference between the lighter ball and the heavier ba...

Re: Turbocharged Purple Pearl ??!!

One factor I have never heard anyone talk about is torque. Torque would be the amount of force that is applied to the bowling ball at the point of release. I guess, it is not measurable? The heavier the ball, the greater the resistance. But, it is not just a weight factor. Rolling a heavier ball req...

Re: Correcting Bad Release Habits(?)

The foul line drill is very effective, used it extensively while coaching at the collegiate and high school levels. It was somewhat frustrating to see a few people not benefit from the exercise. This particular group of people would constantly accelerate the swing too early even while doing the foul...

Correcting Bad Release Habits(?)

Over the years, I've had several bowlers that were very good athletes. All had above average fast twitch muscles. They all had a couple things in common too, turning the ball early and turning it violently. Try as they might, they just could not stop releasing the ball so violently. In an effort to ...

Re: Won my choice of Brunswick balls in raffle

Aren't ball raffles great! When confronted with an opportunity to choose any ball, a lot of bowlers tend to lean toward something that is not quite right for their game. Mostly, that happens because someone told them to get the most expensive ball on the wall. Have someone watch you throw the ball, ...

Re: Reinventing my game

Bud, your perseverance is to be commended! Our shop sees quite a few bowlers 60 years old and up. They're not too shabby either. In fact, a 70 year fella shot 879 not too long ago, an 82 year old shot 765. So, while age is somewhat of a factor, it is not the deciding factor. It is mental acquity tha...

Re: Conversion from Turbo SG to JoPo

Dean, "The diameter was the same but the JoPos are longer and need to be drilled deeper." That's the answer I was looking for. Thanks! If the SG system was installed correctly, tab breakage should not be an issue. That goes for any changeable on the market. It is imperative, the slug be i...
