Reading the lanes

With all the patterns out there, now you know the length of the pattern (35, 39, 45feet, etc.). My question is, when I’m looking at the lane, how can I determine where that spot is, ex: how can I tell where the 35 foot mark is, etc.?

Re: Video: How to Properly Squeeze a Bowling Ball

Read some of the comments below the video. Somebody did point out the blister. JR admitted he wouldn't teach someone to throw it the way he does.

Re: Video: How to Properly Squeeze a Bowling Ball

Ignore the giant bruise on the pad of his thumb from squeezing it the way hes telling you not to. Do as I say, not as I do. Perfect. Re-watched it and noticed the bruise. Maybe he got tired of the pain and is now squeezing the right way. Could see how that bruise would bring about a lot of question...

Video: How to Properly Squeeze a Bowling Ball

Hi,

What are your thoughts about the latest video from JR Raymond on how to properly squeeze a bowling ball in your approach?

How does Kegel Boardwalk break down?

This coming Sunday, I will be bowling in a tournament on Boardwalk. Due to time constraints, I will be bowling in the 3rd squad. I understand that due to the shortness of the pattern, you will generally play the first arrow and outside, but by the time i get on the lanes, what kind of transition cou...

Re: knee bend

Rome was not built in a day, make a commitment, diet, exercise. If you want to, you can do it. Think about getting your hips down. Sit in a hardwood chair with your bowling ball held against your chest, stand and sit, repeat, do sets of this. Check out Athlean-X on YouTube, look for videos on areas...

Hi Tony,

You ever had a chance to provide those pictures?

I will post them as soon as I can. I don’t use my thumb anymore but I will tape it and take photos so you can see. I liked to use Vise TT25 beige tape, very good quality product. Thanks! Currently, I have a roll of Hammer tape: https://www.amazon.com/Hammer-Tough-Grip-Tape-Roll/dp/B00KPE7RSE/ref=sr...

Re: Thumb problems (once again)

I have a sweaty thumb too, what I do and many would say is not ok but works is to tape all four sides of my thumb, I will post photos on how to do this later. Have you tried a tapered oval, the trick is to get it tight enough so you don't have to squeeze, currently I like using 1 or 2 pieces of whi...

Re: Arsenal question

I would take it down to 500 to break in the line around the 5/6 board. Ideally you would want something with a more forward rolling pin position. Hopefully you can start up the boards. The 3" pin to PAP is going to make a rather long hook zone with the 65* VAL angle. The lower grit surface wil...

Re: Arsenal question

It would be best suited for high friction conditions. I wouldn't be trying to use it on a fresh 40' pattern. Another way to play that ball would be with less rotation, otherwise I think carry will not be the best. You might be able to get it to the pocket, but will it be rolling? Like Mega suggeste...

Re: Toe dragging - how to fix?

Bowling for Beers and Viper,

It's the non sliding foot that I was referring to. In this video, I was concentrating so hard on tightrope walking that the foot didn't drag as bad. For years, I am trying to get the foot to roll over instead of it dragging off the big toe.

Re: Toe dragging - how to fix?

Any chance you can post a video from behind and from the side? From what I've seen before, dragging the toe of the push off foot is usually caused by not transferring your weight from this foot to your slide foot quick enough, or early enough. It can also be caused if your hips are facing right at ...

Toe dragging - how to fix?

Just wanted to know if anyone who drags their push off foot had this footwork issue fixed by a coach, and how this was done? I want to be able to buy shoes without having to choose one in order to not have the pushoff sole eaten away by dragging. Tired of buying shoes every season. I know Dexter's T...

In watching the video,I didn't notice much difference between the 2 videos. However, I tried this in practice and noticed an improvement in my swing to release. Jim, have you had any student use this drill? If this helps, how can you go back to no weight?

Re: Kungfu Grip

Reminder - If you've watched PBA bowling, you may have observed the following. Notables who used this Mike Aulby, Marshall Holman. Puffing a breath into the thumb-hole prior to inserting the thumb, makes the fit just a bit more secure. This can add a moisture seal and just might be the tonic for so...
