Re: Oval thumb drilling

Thanks MineralitePaul and bowl1820.

See if I understand correctly. The thumb hole will be drilled twice, one with -x+y and then +x-y, or vice versa.

Kegel Kustodian Ion lane machine - oil head

When doing the forward oiling, the oil head keeps moving left to right and right to left to apply oil to the transfer brush. Will the oil head stop when 1. approaching the end of the pattern where the load is zero, or 2. the lane machine reaches the pin deck - that's what I saw from a few Youtube vi...

PAP-PIN over 6 3/4"

What will happen for a PAP-PIN dist over 6.75", e.g. 8 or more?

Will the core flare to the other direction?

Re: Need help to my Guru Master

Redrilled the ball eventually from 70-3.75-50 to 60-4.5-30. Flare rings did separate from each other a bit (before was just next to each other and nearly overlapped) but still not as much as my black Guru with 80-3.75-30, or Ridiculous Asym with 65-4.25-35. Can't figure out why? (because my PAP is 1...

What is pin call?

From the above comparison, Kegel lane conditioner "Current" has low to none pin calls. Can anyone explain what "pin call" is? Thanks.

Re: When Did YOUR ball die?

If somebody did a study, to examine how far a ball absorbs oil into itself, I’m willing to bet that it doesn’t go anywhere NEAR the total thickness of the outer shell! That said, I would think that you could simply wash the ball like they used to do, in washing machines at the lanes, and that that ...

Re: USBC New Ball Specs

For quite a while, coefficient of friction has been the ultimate, determining factor in the bowlers ability to break down oil patterns. To prove that, the Strohs teams of old, would select bowlers who basically rolled the ball the same. They were all full rollers, same speed, and had the same traje...

Re: When Did YOUR ball die?

I de-oil bowling balls quite regularly for my customers, as part of regular resurfacing maintenance. It is well worth the expense IMO. I have noticed that the response to friction has decreased over a relatively short time with some of my balls. Not sure why this happens, and even a full resurface ...

Re: Need help to my Guru Master

As Eric said, your tilt is at least wrong. Your PAP might be wrong as well. It's worth remeasuring on that ball. Both of those can change with a fit change. Is this ball the same as your others? The small flare and close to thumb hole track only appear on this ball only. I intentionally tried 2 dif...

Re: Need help to my Guru Master

That is odd. The Master cover is stronger (IMO) than the original black Guru, and the cores are identical. Even playing inside that 9.5:1 flood in the center of the lane, the ball should make a strong move off the end of the pattern. The 1" flare is also confusing. My Gurus in that layout rang...

It is strange that you have such little flare, something is not right.
That's what my other balls usually look like, but the first track of this ball is very close to my thumb hole unless I intentionally give more tilt to it.

Need help to my Guru Master

Drilled a Guru Master 2 weeks ago. 70*3 3/4*50 #2000 grit (pin next to ring finger). When play in oil (around 10th board), it hydroplanes, struggles to hook, and hardly turns into roll phase. Only when I swing it to outside dry board (5-6th), it produces a smooth hooking motion. it has very small fl...

Re: Shoe recommendations?

I got a pair of Brunswick TPU, Dexter SST 8 and Hi-Sport (Korean brand). I love the comfort of Brunswick TPU most but to me, it halts sliding very soon. I swap soles and heels with SST 8 / Hi-Sport. Same result. Not sure if this is because of the design of the sole. Looks like it has some cushion ef...

Re: Balance hole for Ridiculous Asym

Ads, Yikes, I lied! I re-read my post here and realized I made a serious typo when I said the ball had a P3 balance hole – it does NOT – and I knew better but didn't catch it. The balance hole in this ball is between the gradient line and the VAL about 1-1/2 inches below the mid-line, and 1 x 3. So...

Re: Balance hole for Ridiculous Asym

Ads, I have the Ridiculous-ASYM drilled similarly at 60 x 4 x 40 with P3 at 1 x 3. On the DeTerminator, the ball spins about 2.1-2.25 seconds, and the PSA is over the thumb hole (which kinda surprised me on my asym as the PSA usually doesn't move much or at all). I've tried different surfaces but h...

Re: Balance hole for Ridiculous Asym

With #2000, the ball motion is smoother and more predictable but a bit to the right , the ball loses energy and to the left, it jumps out of the pattern. Thinking perhaps a P1 to tame it down and play straighter in dry outside boards, or a P3 to swing it on oil. But as I said, the PSA is already clo...

Balance hole for Ridiculous Asym

The current layout is 65 * 4 3/8 * 35. Experienced over and under. Sanded to #2000, smoother and more predictable . Thinking of a balance hole, P1-P3 but don't know which to go for. Also, the PSA is very close to the thumb hole which I guess the int diff has been increased. Will a P3 decrease the in...
