Re: revs

IMO, rev-rate and ball-speed should be quantified in a domain that is relevant to a 60ft lane over a 2-3 second time span.
ie: feet-per-second.

RPM and MPH are not only different domains, they are both grossly overboard with regard to distance and time.

Re: real good strong pearl balls

"good" depends on your release metrics.
IMO, one of the best "pearls" right now is the Storm PhaseIII. It's a hybrid that does the pearl tricks in spades.

Re: A DeTox Story

By the time a ball needs to be rejuvenated and resurfaced, the bowler will be very familiar with its roll characteristics, and may actually bowl higher scores with it after rejuvenation than he did when it was new. Assuming of course that the ball is well matched to the bowler and lane conditions.

Re: Drilling Advice

Post your complete specs (axis tilt, rotation, ball speed, rev rate, span, PAP) so one of the layout experts here can assist you meaningfully.
BTW< the CG location (circled in your picture) is irrelevant to ball motion. You can safely ignore it.

Re: Iq tour emerald really simular to timeless and rocketshi

Timeless 2.57/.050
Rocketshjip 2.54/.046
Emerald IQ 2.49/.029

With the same layout, these balls will have different ball motion, since the core numbers and core shapes are very different.

Re: Resurfacing a new ball

Some factory polished balls I have drilled simply do not read the friction as well as they do after refinishing them to similar spec. It's almost as if the factory finish is obliterating the teeth in the coverstock.

BTM rates the Orange Vibe as being overall stronger than the Hustle PRO.

Re: Entry level ball

My customers have liked the Storm Surge as an entry level or dry lane ball. C300 Messenger is another option, but in my experience, the ball does not flare as much as the surge, tends be a softer at the breakpoint, and reads the front a bit earlier on dry lanes. IMO, layout for this class of low-fla...

Re: Assym and sym balls

I like asymms for versatility in drilling, but on THS it really does not matter much (inside vs outside lines; both work very well with appropriate layout and surface) unless the bowler metrics are below 2 or above 4. (with regard to the 5 point bowler efficiency scale, with 3 being a matched bowler)

Re: Storm | Pin Buffer Layout System - Part 1 & 2 & 3

I am currently struggling with a dual-angle conundrum. Lets say I have two bowlers with very similar metrics, but different PAP coordinates. If they both calculate to 60x4x40 layouts, the gripping holes will intersect the core differently for these two bowlers, and thus change the shape of the core ...

Re: Fingers across the back not up the back

I tend to think of this type of release in terms of "winding up" the hand position toward the inside of the ball as the ball descends into the release zone, then allowing gravity and inertia to unwind it rapidly at release. This requires good balance and timing, as well as a relaxed grip/arm/shoulde...

Re: Skip flip ball reaction

Personally, I love using skid-flip layouts on strong balls on long patterns. But on a typical house shot, it's too violent at the end of the pattern to be useful.

Re: PAP position up-down

PAP coordinates are relative to an arbitrary standardized reference point. (center of grip) The coordinate values are more or less irrelevant to the bowlers metrics, and are certainly not a reliable indicator of anything. The direct distance from the first oil ring to the PAP, without regard to the ...

I noticed the change to the labels and commented to a customer that the Surge looks like a Brunswick ball. His first five games with the ball (75 x 3.75" x 25) on THS:

I would love to know if the Reactor cover has been modified.

Re: Custom drilling worthless?

Not sure I agree with the assertion that different bowling balls will have a different PAP, due to the core. We are concerned with the PAP at the laydown point, not five feet from the foul line. If the bowler releases the ball the same way with every ball, the PAP should be a constant. Otherwise the...
