Re: Program for drilling ovals

The "new" web friendly Ovalator is here on BowlingChat at https://ovalator.bowlingchat.net/ . I wasn't sure what the original UI looked like, so this was from memory. I had some fun with the little canvas animation, hope it's helpful. Any feedback, issues or ideas welcome. Thanks to Eric f...

Re: What ball next?

A Zen (pearl) has been my first ball out of the bag since it was introduced. The cover is stronger than you might think, and I have issues getting it to hit if my ball speed is suffering that day (back, hip, knee...). FYI, my 3 ball tote is Zen, Phase4, Purple Hammer. If you have more tilt or ball s...

Re: Program for drilling ovals

I've taken the plunge and written an Ovalator equivalent in Javascript/HTML/CSS. This was written very quickly using no external libraries, just stock JS and canvas. It seems to do what it needs to. I'll clean it up and publish it or hand it off to Megamav for hosting here, if that makes sense. PM m...

Re: KGT Green Plug Dams

I just bought one to try and it looks like there is a raised gasket on one side, which I assume goes down on the ball? Yes/no? Great tip about vaseline as a conditioner/sealant/release agent. Not having tried the oval yet, I wouldn't trust this to seal tightly on its own - I'm paranoid about leaks! ...

Re: Thumbless full-roller?

That is very interesting, thanks! I am sure we will experiment - unfortunately the center is closed for the holidays and perhaps a bit longer so not sure how soon we'll be able to try this. I'll file it away for later.

Re: Thumbless full-roller?

Yes! Although, I believe he was tracking over the ring finger and then reverse flaring away - it was very hard to tell. I had not considered the reverse flare possibility until elgavachon mentioned it. hyroad-small-val.jpg Here is it with the ball flipped and grips swapped. I did not get the track r...

Re: Thumbless full-roller?

Yes, the pap is measured from center of bridge - and verified with tape. Thanks, this was the confirmation I was looking for. The long pin and small VAL are a no-go with his release characteristics. The weak sym also appeared to contribute. Any recommendations for layout to improve tracking and reac...

Thumbless full-roller?

A thumbless one-hander that I bowl with had a Hyroad Pearl (pin under bridge, with removable insert thumb hole) that he loved in practice. He wanted to make it legal, so we plugged the thumb - but (as expected) the reaction changed dramatically. I rewatched Mo's video and re-read the thumbless layou...

Frankenball - reuse, recycle?

So, I'm watching bowling one day and my daughter asks me "Dad, have you ever made a bowling ball?" Answer, "No, but I've thought about it". Now I have, kinda. cracked-iq-tour.jpg dovetail-2.jpg dovetail-3.jpg quadrants.jpg sliding-dovetail.jpg Given the long break from bowling, C...

Re: Kegel Specto Lidar

A friend suggested using a video camera and OpenCV. I never had much luck with TrackMyRoll, but he seemed to think that image processing might be the way to go. I don't know that API, but it appears quite capable - just a thought...

Re: Kegel Specto Lidar

Jarek, I was wondering if you discovered anything interesting re: LIDAR? I visited Kegel a few years ago and felt like it could be possible to "roll your own" lite version of Specto, but I never got around to doing it. I'm talking bare bones, nothing as polished and feature rich as Specto....

Re: Copying a Switch Grip with unknown specs

I'd suggest you just find a qualified, experienced pro shop... I do know that can be difficult, so here are a couple of ideas. Vise and Turbo recommend drilling the pitches into the ball to accept their permanent inserts. The hole in the removable slug is neutral, ie. no pitches. The hole should loo...

Re: Conspiracy Layout

The layout you describe on your Idol is in my estimation a fine layout for your estimations. The Idol is a weaker light oil coverstock. You want more hook get a stronger ball. Your choice of line could be to blame. 5 board on a house shot is considered to be a high friction line playing in the dirt...

Re: Pin to pap symmetrical ball only, curiosity, non 2 finge

GG does still matter for making the static weight limits. Right now, we can choose the 1 oz finger/thumb/side with balance hole, or the 8/1/2020 3 oz finger/thumb/side. It's 3 oz top/bottom regardless. There's been ongoing debate, simulation and testing as far as what difference 3 oz of finger/thumb...

Re: Completely Lost With Layouts...

Rolling over the fingers is definitely not the end of the world. Some layouts will do that for me, and I have a thumbless teammate who always tracks over the fingers. Rolling over the thumb has been a real reaction killer for me, tho. What type of ball do you have the full roller on? Is it a low fla...

Re: Completely Lost With Layouts...

I can sympathize with your frustrations. I also track high, and have been working on adding tilt and moving my track away from fingers and thumb. It's been fairly successful through practice, getting physically stronger, experimenting with span/pitches. My experience is that with your low tilt (and ...

Re: PBA Playoffs. HATE the shouting.

Having just spent the day up in Portland to watch the playoffs, I'd have to say that TV doesn't really do it justice. The costumes, the yelling - yes, it's not traditional. It's silly, fun and entertaining! Some of the chants and nicknames are pretty clever and the players do enjoy it. Those are som...

Thumbless bowler, general layout advice

Mo posted a new video a while back, which builds on what he has published previously. My quick takeaways are - Adjust pitches to avoid rolling over fingers Pin should be above the ring finger to PAP line • higher pin is sharper breakpoint • lower is sm...
