Re: Need a Ball & Layout Recommendation(s)

thanks! i'll work on that. The approaches very sticky that day. I like to slide so, planting is a B game for me. I've been bowling awesome lately despite some flaws you point out. I've been top two or 3 in almost every event. hell, even won an event on 52' badger using speed. Shot a couple 300s in t...

Re: Need a Ball & Layout Recommendation(s)

I did a Ball demo for DV8, Brunswick, & Radical August 2018. Here are reviews that were most interesting to me. I reviewed all the balls in the demo but, you'd have to subscribe to my YouTube channel to see them all. here are the Bias, Creed Rebellion and Beyond Ridiculous Pearl. Note: I used Quantu...

Re: Danger/Problems at the lanes people out of control

I was going up on several occasions and kicked others who run up on my back side trying to bowl on their lane. a lot of this is the desk person using common sense and I tell them about it every time they could put more serious bowlers with kids or parties near each other. one time I was in mid swing...

Re: Thumb Swelling Tricks?

I have interchangeable for my strike balls but, not my spare ball which has the tightest thumb of all my balls and interchangeables. I make sure I can fit my thumb in that ball first, then decide on the interchangeable to use. my thumb shrinks to fit the thumb hole. rarely I find it too big for my s...

Re: Need a Ball & Layout Recommendation(s)

what's your speed/specs. my speed is reading 17+ to 18+ downlane. spare avg over 19 but that's straight and with plastic. I just saw that Kingpin Max and the Quantum Bias. I'm liking the looks of both those balls for what I'm doing. here's what I'm thinking : Kingpin Max: 65 x 3-3/8 x 30 - 3000grit ...

Re: Need a Ball & Layout Recommendation(s)

I have a SurLock and it's what I used to win the tournament with. it's drilled 45 x 4-1/2 x 35. I can tell you it does not hook much. in the matchmaker I thought the ball I threw (sure lock also) was the strongest ball in the bunch, but, apparently, I didn't copy that ball's layout close enough. bec...

Re: 2018 US Women's Open Final Observations

try bowling there sometime. I bet the lane topography is affected by the million or so games thrown in that place annually. it's an 80 lane center in a populated Orlando. I live over an hour from there so mostly I bowl in Randy W's tournaments there on sport shots with little or no back-end. Even wi...

Re: 2018 US Women's Open Final Observations

In my opionion the difference in lane topography caused most of the matching up issues. you got that right. I bowled tournaments in there and if you play 12-25, the heads are so worn out your ball will jump a couple boards almost immediately if you're not careful. spares are particularly tricky.

Re: Estimating Coverstocks

what you get out of the box and what you end up with after a week of bowling are two different things. most balls end up medium no matter how "strong" they are made. weaker or medium balls are pretty close to what they say, because you can't really overgrow a medium or weak cover ball. err... "We go...

Need a Ball & Layout Recommendation(s)

until last night I HATED my Idol. for some reason I didn't understand how to throw that ball. but, I got it locked in finally and after two bad games. threw 11 identical-carry strikes in a row with it. I was determined to figure out what works for this ball, I found something. the ball likes to spin...

Re: 2018 US Women's Open Final Observations

I was there and saw flashes of brilliance from a lot of the players. Gongorra was completely locked in during the match play on Thursday. I expected she had a backswing that's a little too quick and timing is really sensitive with that technique, but, she was definitely hurling great shots that day....

Re: Bowling mental game (what exactly does that mean)

you bowled good because of your mental attitude! you were not expecting good results so, you were actually bowling at a time where you didn't care about results. you were just there so you wouldn't let anyone down. it was all mental if you think about it. just not the way you usually approach the ga...

Re: DISCOVERED A THUMB realization

I'm in the same boat. on a proper span fit I drop the ball even if I tape it super tight. I increased my span by 1/16 of an inch and I don't drop the ball now. it allows more contact with the base of my thumb and it's easier to hold on to for me even throwing up to 19mph downlane. a possibility for ...

Re: USBC New Ball Specs

I don't expect everyone to agree with this post, but, I am bringing up some notable points here... I've pretty much stayed out of the discussion on thes rule changes. to me it's an all out attack on "2-handed" bowlers. high rev players have an advantage but then low revs players also do as well. onc...

Re: Layout Advice for Long/Heavy Patterns

understand. the Alpha Crux I throw in the videos in this thread is the product of hating every storm ball I threw. I won it in a tournament, so, decided to try the 40 x 3 3/8 x 60 layout and for me that ball hits with some nice power. now, even moreso with the new turbo power lift inserts. I didn't ...

interesting. what happens if you use a ball with totals way too low for a bowler? I'm experimenting with totals too high for me but never occurred to me to experiment this way.
