Re: USBC finds another way to bail out proprietors

I see it more as bailing out local associations and another cost cutting move. I know the members of the local association board here inspected the lanes. I'm sure they do a pretty good job but not as good as a national crew that is dedicated to inspecting lanes. I'm not sure what specialized equip...

Re: My 9 Simplified Layouts Confusion

In general, with the new USBC rules, Mo has settled on 3 locations for the PSA to create desired ball motion for most bowlers: In the thumbhole, between the thumbhole and VAL, and on the VAL. Again, pretty generic, and will probably work for most league bowlers. My PAP has a 5" horizontal measu...

Re: Turbo Switch Grip problems

I just received some new Switch Grip components, and noticed the new label on the packaging as well. I have only installed the outer sleeves so far, but now I'll try a new inner just to see. In general I'd say Yes, Cyanoacrylates can make certain materials more brittle and fragile. But unless you're...

Re: Adding a pinky hole, but need some guidance

I did this for a friend as well. I had her place her hand in the ball like "normal" and then traced her pinky. I drew a line straight through the tracing, acting as my centerline for that specific finger. I thought of it like a Sarge Easter grip, and measured for a conventional span on tha...

Re: Leagues with underage bowlers now required Safesport

Wall of text incoming. Cliff's Notes at the end. SafeSport has apparently been around since 2012 ( source , although I'm not sure how reliable it is), as an offshoot of the USOC, and it did nothing to prevent what occurred to those young athletes during that time. From The U.S. Center for SafeSport'...

Re: Low RG/low diff balls

Venom series from Motiv (3 different cores). The Recoil is 0.036 (juuuust outside your spec), but it's also Asymmetric (0.013).

Track Kinetic series is close at 0.038.

Re: RG of the PAP

Thanks for your input and calculations. When you calculated the RPM and MPH off the hand, is this assuming 0 degrees tilt, that the ball is tracking the full circumference of the ball? Or is it independent of initial tilt? Darkhorse's calculations are confirmation of the verbal explanation in my ea...

Re: RG of the PAP

Thanks for your clarification. So when Mo talks about linear velocity, is he referring to the linear velocity of the PAP moving along the RG contour? That was my understanding of his comment. And I'd say friction is taking away energy, specifically linear energy (mph), not rotational energy (rpm). ...

Re: RG of the PAP

In order to conserve angular momentum, the objects must be operating in a closed system with no external forces.
Since we have an external force (friction) acting upon the bowling ball, angular momentum is not conserved, and therefore not a constant.
Sounds official, right?

Re: Customer asked for a pinky hole.... how to pitch it?

Did this for an older friend suffering from arthritis. I had her place her hand on the ball, and moved her pinky to a spot where she felt comfortable, that it wasn't spread out too far. Measured for a conventional span. For drilling, I traced a line centered on her pinky, and used that as my "c...

Re: New Ball Specs, Collusion?

I voted NO, simply based on the definition of collusion. My understanding is there is a particular individual in USBC that tends to get tunnel vision when dealing with perceived problems. When he is made aware of an issue, he will focus on only 1 possible solution, regardless of where science and re...

Re: Severe bruising on top of the thumb

I can't speak for others, but I asked about some of your measurements because you stated that you had 1" Forward pitch in your thumb. To anyone who has drilled bowling balls, that is a red flag. In general, moving a thumb pitch Forward (or less Reverse) eases grip pressure, but you claimed that...

Re: New rules: Balance holes vs PSA shift

My understanding is the elimination of balance holes is to keep drilled bowling balls closer to the designed differential limit of 0.060. By keeping the drilled differential lower, they can reduce potential track flare, and sustain the oil patterns that way. Everything I've read from USBC leads me t...

Re: Severe bruising on top of the thumb

In my experience, the tiered taping is only helpful for bowlers with "hitchhiker" thumbs, where the tip/nail points backwards when the thumb is held straight. The bottom tiers help fill in the gap at the bottom. For folks with straight thumbs, the increased pressure at the bottom can be le...

Re: Anybody experimenting with 3oz finger, thumb or side wei

Though I am not sure what this will do to the RG and other variables of the ball. And there's the rub. How can you be sure that the observed result is strictly due to the resulting static weights vs. the change in RG values? I can appreciate your curiosity, and I won't vilify you for trying somethi...

Re: INNOVATIVE PLUG CUTTER

There should be 2 set screws in the cutter body that hold the blade in place - stacked on top of each other, to prevent backing out. Remove the first set screw, then break the second/inner screw loose, and snug up just enough to hold the blade, but where you can still tap it sideways. Set the press ...

Re: Middle finger issues

Looks like you're right-handed. According to the Morich Fitting Guide (AKA the "wikifit") you'd need 5/16" LEFT in the MF, and 9/16" RIGHT in the RF. The lateral pitches you've described are backwards. Do you use grips? They should be rotated to line up with your CLT. Also, it's ...

Re: Finger Tape

I wouldn't recommend fitting tape with inserts. Most tapes will be too thick for this purpose, and the friction between the tape and grips will cause problems with the tape peeling back from your skin. I would recommend adjusting the insert size with a business card. Cut the card into 1/8-1/4" ...

Re: Suzie Minshew's Bowl-Gram Keeping pins low

Lets think about this for a minute... The Center of Gravity is not the geometrical center of the ball. There could be instances where there is a considerable distance between the geometric center and Center of Gravity. Lower Cg in a golf club yields higher trajectory on the ball. Pin Center of Grav...
