Targeting

Curious as to how bowlers target. Mine is similar to Wes Malott. I look at my break point down lane, draw a line back to where I want to cross, but the difference is I look at the foul like the whole time. Generally aiming in an area. Say I'm targeting 10 and want to break at 5, I'll look at the fou...

Re: Track changed

Seems Eric was right on the money. Surface changes are all I needed which helped my game and after a rough 165 start I finished with 238 and 256 for a 659 set. Right around average but played the right part of the lane and made the right moves.

Re: heavy oil VS light/medium

Other thing is trying to get the ball rolling more forward. This will get it started up earlier and help it roll sooner to help combat the heavier oil a bit. While having versatility in terms of speed and rotation control is great, sometimes it comes down to matching the right ball to the lanes.

Track changed

Taking the off season to mostly rehab and get in better shape. Overall I feel okay, but I noticed that after physical therapy, my track had changed. I use to have a spinners track due to having 27* of tilt, but now my track is a 3/4 roll but soft hand release. It's closer to my thumb and decently aw...

Re: Phaze2

Speed is measured off the monitor. And I was looking to use it as an all around ball for both house and sport, simply adjusting speed and angles as necessary. Drilled it up today and both pro shop operator and I agreed on 45x3.5x50 for the phaze 2. Haven't thrown it yet, but I feel it's a ball I sho...

Phaze2

My pro shop is ordering me a phaze 2. Looking for ideas for layouts that would be best. Stats are 15-16mph avg ball speed. Rev rate of 330-360. Rotation is around 45 degrees and tilt is 25 degrees. Yes I am a lower rotation spinner. PAP is 4 inches to the right by 1 inch up. I want the ball to be an...

Re: Grips

Thanks for the words kaj. I wanted to try something different. Having been gripless for years I figured why not try inserts again. I do know that they will change and I'll have to maintain them and change them as needed, but to me its worth it. Helps my release and my game to score higher. Also my d...

Grips

Got a used hot cell drilled up and a new Rubicon drilled up yesterday. Hot cell is 10 pin/extreme dry lane ball. Rubicon is one of the best balls i have thrown in years. My pro shop operator made the mistake of drilling the balls and adding inserts to them. I told him as he was putting them in that ...

Ball roll

Hi all. Just curious, I have low tilt about 10-12 degrees and low rotation no more than say 35 at most. The curious thing is I track very low like a spinner, but I am not spinning the ball at all. It's a heavy forward roll as my numbers indicate. Also rev rate is around 350 rpms with an average spee...

Re: Lost rotation

Thanks all for the great advice. It seems like I'm not quite finishing with my thumb pointing towards 10 and rather it's only going from 2 to 12. Like I said, I'm excited to be working on my release in the summer. For now I'm going to work with what I got and make it work.

Re: Lost rotation

Just finished my practice session. Tried spreading my index finger and tucking the pinky and I still could not get around the ball. Still very much behind the ball, but not completing the shaking hands portion of the release. I tried throwing the ball with just 2 fingers and noticed my rotation impr...

Re: Lost rotation

Thanks for the advice. Will try a wider position with the index finger and I normally tuck my pinky. However recently I've been untucking it. So will go back to my old/normal release and see if my rotation gets better.

Re: Lost rotation

The only issue I've seen is that my wrist tends to break too early at release. I have no issues staying behind the ball now. Maybe it's the wrist breaking too early causing my lack of rotation. Going to go practicing pretty soon, so let's see if it is a matter of my wrist breaking too early. I will ...

Re: Lost rotation

Figured something else out. I have for the time being a pinched ulnar nerve at the moment. It only happens when gripping too tightly any object, not just my bowling ball. Maybe that could be reason as to why my hand is not quite finishing the rotation on the ball. Don't know for sure, but maybe my m...

Re: My thoughts on PBA telecasts I've watched lately

Personally, I don't mind the telecasts at all. If anything, it gets eyes on bowling, which is the most important thing. Also strike track showing how accurate and consistent the pros are, actually give a great perspective on what it takes to be a professional bowler. Take for instance, Tommy Jones' ...

Re: Re-entering the sport. Could use some help...

With no thumb bowlers and two handed bowling becoming more common, it's less frowned upon these days. It's actually encouraged. Again the name of the game is not how, it's how many. Weight of ball is personal preference. Most use 15 lbs, while some use 16 lbs. With the dynamics of today's equipment,...

Re: Lost rotation

Bowled city tournament and straighter was the greater shot. Had a low 508 for team. Only reason was I couldn't get slow enough. While my new release isn't terrible, I would like a little more rotation to play in when the shot calls for it. Otherwise I'm content knowing I am behind the ball now. Some...

Re: Lost rotation

I put a piece of tape on my axis point while practicing. It was pointing at 9 o'clock the whole time. The only time I got it to face correctly around 8 to 830 was when I purposely held the ball on the side and suitcase released it. So looks like something for me to work on in the summer as I like my...

Lost rotation

As the title says, I seem to have lost all my rotation. Keep in mind I took a year off of bowling. Now this is the first time I've been bowling competitively and practicing consistently in a long time. Picked up a ball from my pro shop operator and practiced a couple of games with it. He noticed tha...
