Re: New ball for a 10 year old new bowler

As a Pro Shop operator as well as a coach, I would recommend conventional grip. The boy should enjoy the fun of bowling while he learns the sport. Semi fingertip should be avoided. He will need to get the grip/span checed regularly, I suggest when he needs a new shoe size, his hands would have grown...

Re: PAP Question

The PAP is a function of your release. Using a high flaring ball will make it more difficult to determine the PAP at the time of the release. A low flairing ball simplifies the task.

I doubt if the temperature is the cause. 25C is the same as 77F.

Re: Want to try 2-handed bowling. What to do with none-bowling hand?

As you have an oval thumb and the thumb hole is drilled for an oval thumb I suggest you use skin patch as KAJMK suggested. A small amount on each side of the thumb before you start bowling. Make it part of your warm up ritual and don't let anyone persuade you that it is the wrong thing to do. It wil...

Re: Pro shop training

I attended a course run by the IBPSIA at Jayhawk in Lawrence Kansas. I previously attended seminars in Europe run by manufacturers and brought the Ebonite training specialist assigned to Europe to my shop in Ireland to assist in setting up the shop as well as provide training. As Jayhawk is only a f...

Re: Fitting “thumb out”

Several years ago at the European Championships a legal ball was disqualified. The tournament rules said each ball must be USBC approved and be listed on the USBC website. One ball was made for conditions commonly found in Europe and sold only in Europe. The ball was USBC approved but not marketed i...

Re: Fitting “thumb out”

Thanks for correcting my error of using the old rule of 1 1/4 inch for the maximum hole size. The point is that an inspector might disqualify any ball that excedes the maximum hole size due to beveling.

Re: Fitting “thumb out”

If a tournament inspector decides the hole is in excess of 1 1/4 inch then the ball might be declared illegal. Of course you can challenge the inspector, and sometimes that will work. The best thing to do is make sure a tournament inspector does not find anything to declare the ball illegal.

Re: Fitting “thumb out”

There is a danger of creating too much bevel and having the hole larger than 1 1/4 inch. I saw a ball inspector at a tournament challenge a ball with a large amount of bevel. The ball passed the inspection but the bowler was very upset. Be careful.

[/quote]They stay in the house when not in use (70-85 degrees), but the humidity changes a lot (less than 5% to over 75%). Would that have any effect?

I am not aware of humidity causing a problem. Perhaps a ball manufacturer would answer the question.

Re: Mini timelapse of my bowling ball cracking !

You may have a problem with where you keep the ball when it is not being used. For example I know one case of a bowler who kept the ball in the trunk or boot of the car when it was not being used. In the winter the cold weather made the coverstock more fragile. The bowler took the cold ball directly...

Re: League Rotation

This topic can cause some bowlers to become very upset. Depending on where you are located in the world there are different ideas as to what can or should be done. In some locations is is normal practice to replace a bowler in every game. Some teams have a policy that the bowler with the lowest scor...

Re: New ball advice

Welcome back to bowling. Setting your priorities would put your bowling time with your children at number 1. Your priority should be to spend some 'quality' time with your kids. I am not surprised that your hand hurts. After all those years away from bowling your hand would have changed, but the bal...

Re: Drilling Q: Pancake block + no thumb ...

You asked if you should weigh the ball to determine the top weight and location. I always did that because what comes out of the box may not be correct. What happened to me once was a ball had the CG marked in the wrong place. The ball had a small 'dimple' hole on the surface as well as the marking ...

I suggest that you contact the local bowling association and ask for assistance. The local association has a duty to promote and develop bowling in the area. You might also contact the bowling proprietors in the area, and also the other schools in the area. Each of these groups should be able to pro...

Some to improve their own game, some to help other bowlers at any number of levels. The reason for becoming a coach has personal expectations attached. Some people ...

Re: Opinion: Keep ball reps out of active competition

High technology equipment has been introduced into many sports. So called 'super suits' were used in swimming and countless world records were broken in a short period of time. In 2009 these swimming suits were banned from FINA competitions because FINA were concerned that such equipment was ruining...

I think this slould be stopped as this...
