PAP position up-down
I was just thinking about a subject I've thought about considerably over the years. Is it better to have the PAP above or below the center of grip for pin carry? Does one or the other, have a pin carry advantage? Or, does the weight block dictate the track in relation to fingers/thumb?

Do carriage bolts come in #10 or #12? Those are the sizes of the screws holding the plastic router base.JohnP wrote:By the way, if you were to decide to try the three screws, use carriage bolts instead - they don't have any slots so there's no way to scratch the ball. -- JohnP

Re: Plug cutting jig
IF, you are only cutting down a couple ball plugs, one can rig a regular router with 3) 1 1/2" long, round head machine screws with locking nuts (2ea), to create legs for the router. It's a tad messy but it does work even if you have a 2nd person holding the vacuum hose. You have to work slowly...

Re: Ebonite Ultra fit tool with 5/8 blade
It's good for minimal scrapping for slightly enlarging the hole where material needs to be removed. I used mine more for cleaning up sanding scratches. since I used a 5/8 sanding drum, both on a drill and on a screwdriver handle, while finish grooming the sides of my thumb holes. Trying to take too ...

Re: How much would you pay?
Being able to drill my own equipment, kept me into bowling for years. I just couldn't pay retail after spending time working in a pro shop. The cost of buying the drilling equipment in the early 90's, was far cheaper than paying full retail. After just a couple years the drilling setup has more than...

Out of the three you posted you can eliminate the G7944, too small dimensions (14"swing). I couldn't find the G0482 as available on Grissly's site, it would probably work fine. The G7947 will work for you but there may be a small limit on changeable thumb slugs, due to the short (4 1/2") s...

Re: 2 Leagues, same center, same night?
Folks, my Thursday night league was cancelled because of snow two weeks ago. And by majority vote, it was decided to be made up on Sunday, the 9th at 6PM. The trick is that I already bowl in a Sunday league at 5:30 PM. So it looks like I'll be jumping across 2 leagues that night. Has anyone ever do...

Re: Opinion: Why is bowling dying? Our game is deeply flawed
Bowling isn't "dying" because of us, the ones reading and posting on this and other forums. It's fading away as the recreational, work, daytime leagues and bowlers, go bye bye due to a myriad of reasons beyond the control of semi-serious to serious bowlers nor the proprietors. Cost, abilit...

Re: Do Radical balls have tendency to "die"
Agreed. I use a mix of simple green and isopropyl alcohol (and sometimes a little water) and it works as good as any bowling ball cleaners I've tried - and I've tried quite a few. The alcohol helps with evaporation and keeps the simple green from leaving a film/residue. This is a commonly used mix ...

Re: I've noticed a trend and I'd like some clarification
I think that to reduce "hitting up" on the ball, the finger pitches must go forward, not reverse. When they are reverse, the fingers have more resistance and can push the ball more. When they are forward, you take away the surface on which to push, so they can't lift as much. I could be w...

Re: urethane Hammer outgassing causing huge bubbles in plug
Two thoughts, first it could be an air pocket in the ball and the plug was curing and getting thicker as it replaced the air pocket. Second, I have had air bubbles in some (mostly finger) gripping holes that I attributed to the epoxy glue used on the insert/slug. BUT not a one looked quite like the ...

Re: Causes of ball cracking
Ever seen a Urethane ball crack? I have not. I believe the curing process of the reactive urethane can continue over time causing the coverstock to shrink, creating higher surface tension. It will give at a weak point. Whether it be a hole, pin riser or I believe a scratch on the surface can be eno...

Anyone know where I can get instruction manual for BT-Ball fitter? I found (have) the complete BT manual in PDF on the internet, 1/2 Japanese 1/2 English. I had the English half on Google docs at one time for a fitter I sold but I think the link expired. It would take me a couple WEEKS to edit my c...

Re: Should bowling be in the Olympics?
Here's a situation that was up close and personal. My son was seeded #7 in the High School State Tournament. The fellow he was bowling against was a formidable competitor. The first to win 3 of 5 would move on to the next round. It was the best bowling match I had ever witnessed, period. The two of...

The first time I saw that miss was in 1977, with a rubber ball. Happened at Gala Lanes in Naperville, when it was a private 32 lane suburban center on urethane finished wood lanes.

Re: constant 7 10 leave
If you look at Kegel lane maps, you'll see that the great majority of topographic features are areas that slant either toward the pocket or away from it. BTW, what's "the sweet spot"? I've seen Kegel's website and aware of the mapping. I also read an article about the changes of lane topo...

Re: constant 7 10 leave
Most probably topography: part of the lane on one side is most likely tilted away from the headpin causing the ball the fall away from the pocket. My guess is that lefties on the same pair rarely have the same problem. you are likely correct on it being topography, but not how you think, imho. More...

Re: what is the most aggressive ball you have thrown. new or
Oh gosh, this question brings back a memory from way back. I received a Blue Brunswick Phantom to test a couple months after a Black Phantom. I went a bit aggressive with the layout and boy did the ball hook. Not only hook, it carried everything near the pocket. 30 clean the first two weeks with it ...
