Re: CG PLACEMENT QUESTION

^^^ This. It's really only surface and pin-to-pap distance in terms of tweaking the reaction of symmetric balls under today's rules.

Re: Surface adjustment advice

I'd definitely try hitting it with a light 3000 or 4000 on top of the current surface (using generous water) for a little more backend reaction while being cleaner up front. For me, 500-3000 on my hybrids does what you're looking for on a typical THS. For solids, I like to use 500-2000 then hit it w...

Re: Mo's new layouts

Totally agree with both of you, and respect your opinions. To me, a "one size fits most" method is counter-productive for a bowler looking to maximize their potential with their equipment, and goes right along with "everyone gets a trophy".

Re: Need help

Without knowing anything about his bowling abilities and where & how he likes to bowl, it's difficult to recommend something. That being said, I would suggest that you take a look at the Motiv Venom Shock and read some reviews on it. This is a very popular mid-range ball that works well for a wide v...

Best ball specs to request when ordering a ball?

I want to order a new ball online, probably a strong asym like a Storm Parallax or something similar in 15lbs. With the new USBC rule changes, what would be the best ball specs (pin & top wt.) to request, or does it even really matter any more? Would 2.92oz top weight be considered usable? Looking t...

Vertical axis coordinate

I'm trying to understand the effect of the height of the vertical axis coordinate of your PAP in relationship to your release. As an example, if you tend to spin the ball some, will your vertical coordinate be higher than someone who has a more up the back release?

PAP Question

While practicing recently, I decided to measure my pap on the 3 balls I was using. I was surprised each one was different. Can the pap vary depending on the ball and layout? After throwing what I thought was a good release with each ball, I traced the first oil ring and then used my spinner at home ...

Re: weird layout on a storm sync

The CG doesn't really come into play. That layout should generally work, but you should really know your PAP and other specs also. You probably should experiment with surface choice to try and get the reaction you are looking for. I like to use a 500-4000 skip-grit finish on both of mine for house s...

Re: weird layout on a storm sync

Seems curious. I roll 2 different Syncs, each surfaced differently and with slightly different layouts, and do well with both, either down and in or swinging the ball. Post a picture of your layout and what your specs are so I can see how they compare to mine and to the layouts I have on my Syncs.

Re: Lane Play Advice Needed

Thanks Eric. You're absolutely right about being reluctant to switch balls from what was working. I always seem to think I can make it work still. Just end up wasting frames. I'll just have to make the commitment to the 2Fast and see what happens tomorrow night. I'll give it a shot. Can't do much wo...

Lane Play Advice Needed

I need some advice on how to play the lanes when my preferred line has dried up (usually late 2nd game or early third game), and because most everyone else has been playing inside of me, I'm usually left with nowhere to go, and my 3rd game scores suffer. As an example, last night I went 230+, 250+, ...

Re: Symmetrical ball PAP-PIN

If the pin is drilled out in the ring finger, basically a control type of drilling with reduced differential, how much and what kind of a change in reaction would it be if you added a P4 balance hole? Also, would it be the same for an asymmetrical ball if you added a P4 with the pin in the ring fing...

Re: Ball Surface for Nationals?

Good information, Champ. I appreciate your input. Based on other reports I've read, I think I'll keep the Diesel at 500, have one Sync at 500-1000, and the other at 500-4000 and try to adjust to the lanes as needed. From past Nationals, I know there isn't a lot of time to adjust surfaces prior to st...

Re: Ball Surface for Nationals?

I'm baking and surfacing my equipment today! Bowling the USBC state tournament tomorrow, then boxing everything up and sending it to Las Vegas for my first trip to Nationals. Can't wait! Steve Good luck & have a good time. It would be great if you could post about your Nationals experience when you...

Re: Ball Surface for Nationals?

Good advice, everyone. Lol, I've definitely been known to occasionally over-think things, or so my wife tells me ;). I'll just de-oil and freshen the surfaces on everything before I go, and absolutely take an assortment of pads with me just in case everything is sliding too far. Probably won't matte...

The two Syncs are done with wet Siaair pads, and the Diesel Particle is done with a worn, wet burgandy scotchbrite. I usually play best straight up 5, sometimes a small swing shot if needed.

Ball Surface for Nationals?

Wondering what ball surfaces might work best when I go to Nationals next month, and if I should change mine or not. I mainly bowl league on a synthetic THS that is probably medium. I'm using the following regularly and do okay with them on that shot in two different leagues: Storm Sync #1 - pin up a...

Re: Using Abrasion pads

I've seriously been thinking about getting a spinner....but it seems as if I should invest in a 2 speed spinner to re-finish a dull ball. What I hear is that applying the 500 grit Abralon...that they are best applied at lower speeds. I thought maybe it was overkill to get a spinner. The guy at Trac...
