Re: Bowling Movie

Boy, this IS sad. I checked out a couple of the festivals this turkey has won at, and found two of them without active web sites, and the "Action on Film" festival has something like 107 categories, including "Best Use of Obscure Fonts in Titles," and "Best Performance by An...

Re: Wheres the Core?

Since the ball is about 4 5/16 inches to dead center, you sure should have hit the core before you got to 5 inches.

Re: Precise effects of asym cores?

Again, What I'm looking for is just what does it do, not whether it's stronger or causes a ball to maintain tilt longer. Why does it maintain tilt longer? Is there a point in the ball motion that a strong asym core causes the precession to increase... or decrease? And why? And... the pin marks the a...

Re: Precise effects of asym cores?

Math, You're right that energy input ends the instant the ball leaves the bowler's fingers. That's one reason why I've never liked calling the core a "motor." It's really a flywheel. But like the flywheel in a gyroscope, it's going to fight to find equilibrium. If the lane were long enough...

Re: Ball speed table--comment please

Interesting coincidence. I just used a table to calculate the time a ball takes to get down the lane... determining that it's less than three seconds for the kinds of bowlers who are concerned about layouts, etc. (BTW, you multiply MPH by 1.46666 to get feet per second. Then divide 60 by that number...

Precise effects of asym cores?

Can you help me find information on the exact effects on ball motion, of asym balls? What I keep reading is the MB is used to "tune" the hook. Okay. But what I'm looking for is just what it does during all stages of the ball's movement down the lane. It's been well established that the bal...

Re: mike fagan:interesting article-"how to fix bowling"

The problem with divisions or tiers is you can't have "mixed" teams. How would my wife (150 average) and me (215-220) bowl together? Okay, we could have caps. A mixed foursome could have a cap of 700 or 720. But then aren't we back at square-one? My wife goes to 160 so I have to sandbag to...

Re: Breakpoint

I have always had trouble with the term "break point," simply because there is no point on the hook parabola that can be defined. Look at the video of TJ and Barnes. Both have balls that begin curving in the oil, but curve more coming out of the pattern. Still, it's not an angular movement...

Re: Unfortunate Announcement

I'm just a little puzzled by the reaction. Didn't Lane Masters make pretty strong balls? Didn't it position itself as a high-performance, high-priced line? And yet, its bankruptcy (which doesn't necessarily mean it's going away) is met with wailing by those who say we must return to the simpler game...

Post in Coaching section?

How does one become qualified to comment in the coaching section? I'm a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks, aka Callus College. I hold a certification from the PBA Competition-Tested Board, with an "I've Won Over 40 Scratch Tournaments But Better Still, Have Missed Cuts By Less Than 10 Pins ...

Re: Your first 300

kajmk is right. One thing I always do when I get to the tenth frame is SLOW DOWN! The front nine came with me waiting anywhere from one to two minutes between shots. So I don't want to disrupt that rhythm by throwing three quick shots. After #10, I'll walk back and take a drink of water (mine usuall...

Re: What's behind your user name? Why did you pick that?

Simple. I choke. Or I have done so about half the time. I greatly prefer building an early lead by starting with the front six or seven. If I have to go sheet to eek out a win or win a big pot, well, maybe my user name should be Toast. Oh, 300 games don't scare me. If I've got the side pot wrapped u...
