Re: Moving to the GTA, need coach recommendations
Brian Dodds was my instructor for the 'Bronze' certification class. He really knows the game.802dave wrote:Sorry, don't know anyone in Toronto; but if you can make it down to Buffalo, look up Brian Dodds.
he's been one of the top 100 coaches in year's past and is very good with the mental game.

Re: PVC Targeting Tool
Sparks, I love the thought you put into designing this set. I will follow your design. One thought tho, instead of hose clamps for keeping the 'drop downs' in place, would a rubber 'O' ring and washer on each side of them be able to serve this function? No tools would be required during changes. If ...

Re: PVC Targeting Tool
Sparks,
What is the purpose of the 'shim' under the left side legs? I am assuming you made the base wide enough that it does not sit in the gutter, and rest's on the rail, and ball cap instead. Correct?

Re: PVC Targeting Tool
I plan on building a blanket tool this summer. The High School Bowling Club I coach can/will learn alot more if I can keep them from looking too far down lane.
I love your idea of the bowlers tape folded, and place on the lane. Great thought there!

Iphone/Itouch video anaysis apps
I have found two great apps for Iphone, Itouch, and Ipad use. I am currently running both on my Itouch 4G. You might need to update the ios depending on what version your device is currently operating at. Easily done via Itunes update. The first one has a 30 day trial, then $9.99 purchase price. It ...

Re: Coaching in the modern era!
Wow! I need to buy more hats now! Very good points Gary! At times I get puzzled looks from bowlers, and their parents on why I can't 'make' their game better. I don't have a magic wand, and I can't roll the ball for them. All I can offer is my passion, and knowledge of the game. A student will only ...

Thanks again for another great post Angela! I will work at getting my middle school bowlers up to speed on your post's. I know they can relate to the info. The high school team is a different animal altogether! It seems they think they know it all already, and our 'coaching tips' just slow down, and...

Re: My son's video
Thanks for the reply Mo, I mentioned to him what you stated, and he actually improved on keeping the foot down, and holding the pose. Why is it you can't coach your own kids? Was the video of good quality? I have tried to view many other vids posted in the other topic. I just can't seem to get good ...

My son's video
Moe, or Jim, could you please critique this for me. I don't have software to analyze the footage, but do have a new i-touch which shot the video. If the vid is of good enough quality, I will look into purchasing the software for vid analysis also. Video was shot after Christmas when leagues were on ...

Re: How to Target from DEEP Inside Lines?
Cranker? Ball return in the way while on the right lane? We had a cranker on High School Bowling club two years ago. He seemed to have the same line up issues. He was a great bowler when the lane allowed him to play his 'preferred line.' If it wasn't there, he still stayed with it, and struggled. I ...

Re: To all the coaches.
There are so many bowlers that are better than I am. I know we will meet in competition someday. My game is sound. Errant shots will happen, and don't count. When challenged for score, I become more focused on my execution of each shot. The result of each shot makes me want to achieve it again. Posi...

Re: Spare Shooting-Consistency? Whats that?
Shots at your spares requires the same mind set as shots for a strike. MENTALLY, you have to tell yourself you can make the shot. You have done it before, why would this time be different? Line yourself up, Take a deep breath, exhale, then execute your delivery.

Re: The word "hook"
A player that plays straight up the boards will destroy those numbers. Playing up the seven board, all they need is 10.5 boards of 'hook' for the pocket strike. They will have no need for a 'hook-in-a-box' ball unless they are trying for a corner pin spare.

Re: Video Of Me Bowling
Free arm swing is not existent in all shots thrown. Every shot looks forced, which is evident in how the arm wraps around the torso in the back swing.
If you are looking for consistent shot making, work on a free swing first.

Re: Pulling down at the top of the swing
Mentally, you have to tell yourself to 'wait for it.' Gravity WILL make the ball descend for the follow through.
