Re: Tried 2 handed bowling today

If you are young enough that your body is able to do it, take the time to learn it. A few years ago I was interviewing Pete Weber. I asked him what he thought of the two-handers. He replied, "I hate them!" When I asked him why, he answered, "Because they can do things that I can't." Next, I asked h...

Re: My thoughts on PBA telecasts I've watched lately

Telecasts, IMHO, have been good overall.

RP seems to over simplify things. I liked him but superficial analysis is not enough.

Can't wait for Barnes to take his job. He knows a thing or two about bowling.

IMHO - shooting the single 7 or 10 off the full rack is cutting it to close to the gutter thereby increasing the chance of missing it

Re: Wrist Device Usage to Cut Rpms - your opinion

Since you first posted this thought as a result of my post, I might as well chime in. I worked very hard, not only to increase revs, but to learn to adjust my axis tilt and rotation. A wrist brace kills this capability. Why would I want to intentionally decrease my rev rate, rather than finding a b...

Re: Storm video - Should I change my ball weight

Interesting video, also a subject explored in detail, in the book “Bowling Beyond the Basics” by James Freeman & Ron Hatfield. It seems to me, having been forced by injury to drop in weight and now slowly going back up, the only way to know the best weight for you is trial and error. Both of these ...

Re: Young people wearing Wrist Supports

Glad to hear I'm not totally wrong. Sort of like a 100mph fastball, you either have it or you don't Kudos on your 240 average ! The speed and coming from below the equator are no doubt the major factor in why a no thumb release imparts more rpms. I've dabbled in no thumb one arm and two arm before ...

Re: Young people wearing Wrist Supports

[Just consider that elite but slightly built bowlers are not doing it with brute strength. If you are young and healthy, chances are better than even that you do not need a wrist device. I believe that whether you do or do not has little to do with strength, more to do with the sense of propriocept...

Re: Young people wearing Wrist Supports

A 400 or greater Rev Rate - you either have it or you don't. Most bowlers with coaching can only slightly improve their rev rate ( ask the coaches here - it is the number 1 question they are asked and the one in which they probably have the least influece). That is because the time between the thumb...

Re: Young people wearing Wrist Supports

Which Storm model would you recommend. I can use a Robby Rev 2 atm but I plan on getting my own one. The last one - C4 - is the best - IMHO Takes a little more getting used to - and is a bit more restrictive. The gizmo is easier to use and cheaper. You can get a feet for it and then decide how you ...

No need to.

Unless you want to have a rev rate > 400.

If so, that is easier done by removing the thumb from the ball.

Re: Bowling Ball Spinner (what speed? is it actually better

I tried to do a search on bowling ball spinner and got all kinds of things showing up and nothing about an actual spinner. I have been told to get one of these by a few people but don't know much about them. They have 1/3hp 1/2hp etc. What is a decent one to get and is it alot better using one of t...

Re: Young people wearing Wrist Supports

Go for it StevenC

It establishes consistency - the key to bowling.

You can always go backwards and later work without it as you get better.

If you are getting one - get one of the later Storm models.

Re: critique the pros!

should be fun and safe to do with a keyboard.

many many years ago - when I was new to the game-

I met Brian Voss at a beginners bowling clinic.

Being quite naive - I asked him why he left so many 10 pins on TV.

Didn't know that I was wading into an alligator pond -

he got quite angry.

Re: Chicken wing cause?

There was great BTM article on this several years ago. Can't remember which issue but I came across it recently as I was reading some old back issues Found it. It was the coaching forum in BTM issue of Oct 1996. Wow! I can't believe it was that far back! I guess, the more things change, the more th...

Re: Suzie Minshew's Bowl-Gram Keeping pins low

Lets think about this for a minute... The Center of Gravity is not the geometrical center of the ball. There could be instances where there is a considerable distance between the geometric center and Center of Gravity. Lower Cg in a golf club yields higher trajectory on the ball. Pin Center of Grav...

Re: Why are the lanes so wonky this year?

You read it right. Self proclaimed experts will tell you the difference in ball motion is due to what is going on in the middle of the lane and carrydown doesnt exist or modern balls dont read it at all. Every single time the bowling ball tracks over one of the two bowties on the ball it deposits l...

Re: Chicken wing cause?

Out of nowhere, during practice today, I noticed my ball wasn't hooking as much and hitting the pins like a wet napkin. I noticed the oil line on my ball was much further right than where it normally is. I think I was chicken winging the ball, topping it off my hand. I might have been muscling it t...

Re: Wrist Device Usage to Cut Rpms - your opinion

Submitted as a possible solution. What is your experience and opinion? Juha Maha had commented that wrist devices were "REV killers". What are your thoughts. Many years ago, my sister (who is a Physical therapist) gave me a "medical wrist support" after I had developed tendinitis. I found that I bo...
