Re: Shame

If you take the time to read through the material, you will find that there are a multitude of conversations that directly contest points Mr. Pinel has made here and elsewhere. At these junctures, Mr. Pinel and/or Mr. Freshour (MathIsTruth) and occasionally, Mr. Ridenour provide documented proof fr...

Re: Red, White, Blue league

I think it's going to come down to who can adjust the quickest to each of the patterns. I don't see many guys doing better on blue than red, I guess it could happen, but it would have to be a fluke matchup thing. I have a feeling it's going to be the guys who pick up spares and not leave splits on ...

Re: Fitting/Tilt Issues

I meant multiplication in the formula, not degrees... so for a 0" track measurement, 90 - 90 x (0/13.5) = 90 - 90 x 0 = 90 degrees for 10", 90 - 90 x (10/13.5) = 90 - 90 x .74 = 90 - 66.666 = 23.333 degrees. Just working through the math in my head... Was hoping to use trig but it seems it...

Re: Red, White, Blue league

If it's a handicap league, I'd reconsider changing the shot twice throughout the year. To establish an average on one shot and then switch to another is just inviting trouble. Whoever ends up matching up with Blue will run away with the league, especially if they struggle (relatively) on red.

Re: Fitting/Tilt Issues

Mo, just trying to work out the calculation on my own, I got that tilt based on that measurement is 90 - 90 * (measurement/13.5).

Is that how you guys came up with the chart? Seems to give the right answer for 10" (23.3333... degrees tilt)

Re: Logging your games?

Aj, I strive to make sure BowlSK works well on mobile devices. Do you have a 3G/4G connection in your bowling alley? If so, try tracking at the lanes - that's what I do with my smartphone. I have considered a native app, but I think that for now my limited time to work on BowlSK is best devoted to i...

kellytehuna wrote:As I understand it, if the ball has axis tilt, it has to have AT LEAST as much axis rotation. This discussion has been carried out NUMEROUS times on these forums, with both Mo and MathIsTruth chiming in to confirm that.
Is there any data or video showing that to be the case?

Re: Flare amount definitions

The amount of flare you see will depend on the strength of the core - higher differential balls will see more flare. Additionally, for strong asymmetrical cores, the widest part of the flare will actually get wider and smaller as the ball travels down the lane. I am sure Mo will pitch in if there is...

Re: Physics

The same way a curve ball goes straight after it curves. ALL empirical data proves it. It's been measured endless times. It travels in a straight line confirmed by a linear equation, but is at an angle to it's initial trajectory. In the graphical analysis, the equation for both the skid and the rol...

Re: Physics

Axis rotation is the difference between a ball's rolling direction and its moving direction. When the ball is spinning like a top, there is no roll, therefore, there is no axis rotation. That doesn't mean the same thing as the ball having 0 degrees of axis rotation - rather, the axis rotation has no...

Mo,

Have you guys produced any video, formulas, etc. that show a ball with axis rotation going in a straight line?

Re: Logging your games?

I use (and own) BowlSK

I built it because there wasn't anything else (and still isn't) that actually let me track all of the things I wanted to, like where I actually hit vs. where I was aiming, breakpoint, etc.

Works well on a smartphone too.

Re: Physics

You have to remember that axis rotation is measured against the balls INITIAL trajectory down the lane. At the point the ball goes into it's roll phase, there will be MINIMAL axis rotation and axis tilt. I believe I've seen numbers in the area of 3º-7º at this point, so the ball is ALL BUT rolling ...

Hi all, Judging from my PMs, I haven't been around in a year+, so I am guessing that I may have missed a lot of great information coming out. That said, I checked the Wiki for info on 2 things that had been bugging me back then to see if there were final answers, and I didn't see any. 1) Was the fin...

Requesting drill advice

Hi, I just wrapped up a clinic with Mike Shady. We mainly identified upper body tilt and balance arm during the approach as my areas to work on. I am also still pushing a bit to the right of where I should be. The videos show before on the left and after on the right from the session. I have also id...

You could also use IRC, there are plenty of applets/flash applications that allow embedding.

Re: Help me pick my Cheetah ball

I could bank the gutter on the Cheetah at the nearby AMF house, but the last 2 other houses that have laid it out, I've had to play more of a "2 is the gutter" line, banking off of 3. Hitting 1 or 2 was a washout or 2-x. Trying to keep the breakpoint around 4 game me a board on either side...

Re: Ebonite Mission

I like the suggested layout with the P-high number hole. The ball will probably push him more into the oil. My Mission was very rolly in the midlane for the first 2 games or so. Make sure he gives it a few games to break in before evaluating angularity. Mine is drilled similar (with a slightly large...

Re: Walter Ray's specs and layout request

40 degrees of axis rotation when he's playing the typical lines we see on TV (up 5/10), or is that when he's playing more of a track-type line? I always pegged his up-the-boards shot at closer to 25ish degrees.

Re: How to Increase Carry

Get a little higher in the pocket, or add a little bit of axis rotation keep the ball from rolling too soon.
