Re: how dead is bowling?

I do think if bowlers want bowling to survive when everything starts back up, they will have to be willing to pay more (probably significantly more) to maintain bowling as we knew it. It may require bowlers paying open play lineage rates to keep leagues. These higher prices may remove the money aspe...

Not wanting to high-jack this thread. How proactive was your local bowling community (association, centers, and league officers) in keeping you up-to-date with the rapidly changing covid-19 impact? Here it was zero except for an email from AMF Bowling announcing their centers would be closed at lea...

I believe Motiv still uses the same shape core in all weights for a given ball. Don't think they use a generic core for lighter weight balls.

Re: Adjusting before the bowling ball goes high and splits

It seems like you have enough data to make adjustments before it is necessary. One thing I will do on lanes that can transition quickly is make 1/2 board adjustments every time up on a lane. Individually the 1/2 board adjustment doesn't do much. I don't get to the exact same spot at the foul line ev...

Re: Your Most Memorable Moment In Bowling?

Maybe not as fancy as some of the others, but cool to me all the same. 1. Bowling in college my freshman year. Was bowling well, but didn't know the standings since they were 2 games behind in getting scores tabulated. Tenth frame of the last game and I leave a 7-10 split. Was upset, but no biggie, ...

Re: USBC says no more U20

The main problem I see is if there is going to be any issues with NCAA (women) being able to bowl adult leagues. I agree with bowlers over 18 competing with bowlers under 18 isn't ideal. But I also understand how the NCAA can be a little unforgiving. I am not sure how many NCAA bowlers bowl leagues,...

Re: question on rules and regulations

Lady "A" was the complainer, Everytime Lady "B" started getting hot throwing strikes. She would complain to the officals that Lady "B" was delaying the game by waiting for her ball to return instead of just using a spareball to shoot her spares or taking too long to make her shot. I realize I misun...

Re: question on rules and regulations

Yeah - honestly, I wouldn't place the burden on Lady B. She was bowling. But if Lady A was constantly complaining, I would put the burden on the lane official to whom she was complaining. If I were the one working those lanes (and they tend to be put in place of a group of lanes) and she was obviou...

Re: How to deep clean my bowl

I have used hot water in a cooler to de-oil my equipment. Get the temp of the water in the cooler to about 120 and leave the ball in it for about an hour. Do not add detergent.

Re: PBA Playoffs. HATE the shouting.

The PBA experimented with yelling during the approach during the 90s I believe. Needless to say it was short lived. I understand the desire to bring something different to the PBA League shows. I would rather see everyone mic'ed up and talking trash than for the crowd to yell during the approach. Ne...

Re: An Inconvenient Truth, the death of league bowling ???

Leagues are doing decently well in the Houston area. My center (AMF) still has several leagues that make enough money for the center that they still cater to them somewhat. But open play makes more. One issue I see is league bowlers have historically been used to paying a discounted lineage rate sin...

Re: Beginner - Shoes modification to get more traction

Any shoe can be used as long as your shoes do not deface the approach or cause issues for other bowlers. (though some centers may try to enforce "house rules")

You could also have a cobbler add a rubber sole to your non-sliding shoe.

Re: what is correct rule if bowler has to leave with frames

Tonight we had this exact situation happen, Bowler had to drop out do a injured toe after four frames. The blind was punched in and the scorer automatically calculated the proper score using the 1/10 rule. Based on my understanding of the rule you have to be careful when allowing the scoring system...

Re: House shot struggles--Recommendations?

Fufu, Most of the balls you mention are symmetric. I remember reading where MO said to start with symmetric and when you can't carry to switch to an asymmetrical. I know you said you only bring the Jackal Ghost to tournaments but I would be interested to see how it does on these lanes. At least it ...

Re: Obstacles in the way when bowling/max opens in 200 game

My guess is they added lanes 1-6 to the rest of the lanes after the original construction. As a former manager, and if that is the only location where there are supports, I would not force the leagues to bowl on those lanes if possible. That is an injury waiting to happen for league bowlers. To be h...

Re: what is correct rule if bowler has to leave with frames

My understanding is you get 1/10 of your average for the remaining frames. The downside is you calculate your complete score up to the last ball you threw. So if you have a strike or spare and then stop bowling, you would not be given any credit for extra pins from subsequent throws. X X X, then sto...
